I’m not discrediting him, he discredits himself. If he has something “insidery” to say he leaves himself an ocean wide exit plan of ifs, maybes and buts. He’s not interesting to listen to, that’s all. Knock yourself out if you want to listen to hot air and a guy saying “stuff can happen”.

Guy before me nailed it. It’s clear that the agenda is to fill airtime on Canadian teams even if there’s nothing to say.

If you listen to him he's clear when he's talking about things he's speculating about v. true insights.
And yes he does have to fill a certain amount of air time and create a certain amount of content.
If you don't enjoy it, don't watch/listen to it.
But dear god don't some of you get tired of just complaining about everything?

Worth pointing out if not for Friedman we wouldn't know that Kadri's NTC had converted to a modified one already. I guess that doesn't count though because reasons.

I'd still like to know when Kadri's NTC converted. Nobody has mentioned the date on which that happened. Usually these things happen at the start of a new contract year, July 1, but nobody ever mentioned it all through the off-season.

It has been confirmed by Pike and others that it was July 1 when it changed from full NMC to the limited NTC. Tons of flexibility for the flames if they want to deal him

It's not so much that I'm trying to discredit him. I acknowledge that he breaks tons of stories and is probably the biggest insider in hockey media and I genuinely rely on him as a credible source. But it's more the way out of context information gets spread on the internet based on what hes says on tv.

Like I kind of stated in my earlier post, I don't think he has any pertinent info on the Flames at the moment because things are so quiet with it being early in the season. For me there's basically two ways he reports - breaking trades and news stories online before anyone else, and then when he's on tv and gets asked about certain teams. This is often when you hear those quotes that start with 'My feeling around Calgary right now is ....' or 'A name I'm really curious about in Calgary is X' etc.. When he's talking about the latter that's when I find he gets quoted out of context and ppl read too far into what he's saying when there's not really anything there.

You’re aware this is a message board where people post opinions correct?

He’s also afraid to have an opinion / take a stand on any issue. But I’ll concede almost all them are like that. Pat Steinberg’s similar. Too afraid to rock the boat. And don’t worry- I don’t / rarely listen. Happy to be corrected since I don’t listen too much just saying my thoughts which is borderline illegal on CP.

So why did it take until late October for this to become publicly known?

I believe he was the first to mention that Kadri doesn't have a full NMC this year, but a 13 team NTC.

Fridge is as connected as they come, and often gives plenty of insight about what's going on behind the scenes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 1,000 games remark was made because everything is already planned. Kadri might have more family in town for that game, and reserved tickets. I'm sure there's already a video tribute ready, the silver stick engraved etc. There's simply no immediate need to trade anyone in the next 2 weeks, so it makes perfect sense.

Listening to Francis/Steinberg on Friday they seemed to rank the Flames trade pieces as Andersson 1, Kadri 2, and when Strindberg brought up Coleman it seemed like Francis pushed back.

To me Coleman makes more sense to trade than Kadri with all the wingers the flames have in their system. I also see Coleman at $2.45M for this year and next being worth at least a 1st from a contending team.

I agree people often confuse about what he is "reporting" v. where he is speculating. I think it drives him crazy too, as the aggregators take his comment out of context and mis-represent them pretty regularly.

I might be misremembering, but I think they mentioned Frost as a trade piece as well. I'm sure there would be plenty of interest around him if the Flames decided Zary is the better option in the top 6.

What I'm most shocked about is this forum is packed with hockey/Flames nerds and not a single one of us was aware that Kadris NTC switched back in July.

We're slipping here nerds. We need to step it up.

Tinfoil hat alert. The Flames got Friedman to leak the change.

It's really weird. It was on all the contract sites, as far as I remember, as kicking in next off-season.
I was trying to go back and find how it was reported when he initially signed the deal, and can't find the details.

But it is odd that everyone had it wrong.
It's good news to be sure, as it opens up some things that we thought were not possible. But it's weird how it just came out rather out of the blue.

Even articles from Pike in the past had it different (not picking on Pike, just pointing how widespread this confusion is)

https://flamesnation.ca/news/8-calga...ricting-trades
"Kadri has a no-movement clause in his contract, running from this season through 2025-26. In 2026-27, it becomes a modified no-trade clause where he names 13 teams that he won’t go to."

Or....
Kadri's agent.

I always say most of what insiders get come from agents.

because the Flames were going to be a playoff team, don'tcha know. So no one was looking. Jiri is probably right - and it's public now, because someone wants it to be public.

That's a good point. I hadn't really thought of that angle. I was thinking more that if a Kadri trade were to happen this season it would just be later on. I know it's been reported Kadri has a good standing with management and likes playing here, so I was thinking it would be around the olympic break or something to make it easier for him & his family to acclimatize to the new city.
