A 1st and two 2nds is perfect.
A team’s “top prospect” isn’t likely to be that great, if the team itself is actually good.
so more bullets for future us vs some kid drafted a year or two ago in the back half of round one = good.
There’s no need to rush.

A top prospect was never on the table outside a GM doing something dumb or from a really weak prospect pool like Boston

I wonder the caps as a lindholm trading partner. Curious how competitive they're hoping to remain.
They have a prospect pool of decent but not amazing guys I would be interested in. Lapierre, McMichael, the russian kid and crystal.
Modeling it around the horvat deal:
2024 1st + Lapierre + Mantha + 2025 2nd for Lindy + dube
If the flames are really trying to get Huberdeau going this could help.
Mantha has struggled recently but he is a French Left shot RW with size. Could be a good option to try on Huberdeaus off wing.
Lapierre builds on the french connection furher and projects similarly to Zary. Solid all around playmaking center with top 6 upside.
Caps 1st shouldn't be as high as some other suitors like Boston.
They have extra 2nds next season.

Not going to lie, I thought Columbus was much farther out of it. Only 4 points back. Although games played is not in their favour...nor the competition fighting for that WC and 3rd Divisional spot.

So just for fun(excluding movement clauses, etc), what about these trades (might be a stretch but the Habs might think they can fix him):
To Habs: Huberdeau
To Flames: Anderson, Xhekaj and our 1st back.
Then:
To CBJ: Hanafin and Kadri
To Flames: JG and a 1st.
I have the flu today so hopefully I’m not too delusional. We get tougher, more fun to watch and maybe gain some cap space.

Values are probably fine, but Columbus has no need for Hanifin.

You know if this fever dream somehow happened the Flames would try to extend Lindholm on a retirement contract. Blech
No thanks

Lots of good ideas in this thread, but adhering to the tradition of the Flames as of late, I'm sure only the worst case scenario will happen to our beloved team. Lindholm probably ends up injured before we can trade him. Hanifin subsequently signs for 10x8 or something nutty.

I’m really hoping for a Zadorov trade to set the bar high for the other two dmen with something like a second and third rounder, but something deep inside me thinks we’ll get another Sharangovic type deal. That’s concerning because with Sharangovic I think they looked at his shot and were enamoured with it but his deficiency list is rough too. It also sets the bar low. Anyway, hypothetical but I hope Conroy creates a bidding war for these guys.

Toffoli for Sharangovich was fine given the mood/expectations of the summer.
This next wave of trades will be futures based, and if players on the level
Of Sharangovich come back, it’s to make the cap work.

Sharangovic is a weird one.
Strong defensively, skates really well, and has a great shot...but can't create a shot for himself.
He should have either been with Huberdeau or Backlund-Coleman ... somebody who can get him the puck to shoot.

But they shouldn’t be the centrepieces of the deal. Fine with taking on someone to make it all work out but the centrepiece should be high picks. Not mediocre prospects with a low chance of being difference makers.

Name me all the high picks moved last off season. As fars as I can tell there was one moved for Provorov (in June, so not at the draft or anything) and one for Newhook (and while it was a first, it was the last pick). There was one for Debrincat. Oh, and Pittsburgh traded on in a multi-player deal for Karlsson.
Toffoli got a second and a decent fairly young player. Seems about right.

3rd, but it was such a loaded draft it would be a 2nd almost any other year.

Ross Colten was moved for decent picks.

One pick (a 2nd) and he went to arbitration to force the new contract.
I'd say 37th pick for signing rights on a 20 goal scorer = 80th plus Sharangovitch for a 31 year old one year rental.
