Haha, we're all a bunch of psychopaths.
The scene in Hannibal when the titular character has Ray Liotta over for dinner had me bursting into laughter.

I watched The Monkey on the weekend and I was really disappointed. I loved Longlegs so I was excited for this one but it just fell completely flat for me. It's biggest crime for me was just how silly the whole thing was. Every character is so random and no one acts like any human would.

That's too bad, I really liked it.
But I went in knowing it was a slapstick horror-comedy of sorts so that's what I was expecting.

The Monkey is great because of its dark humorous tone. If you didn't sign up for that I can see why you wouldn't be into it but I enjoyed that about it.
The funeral scenes and the ice cream monologue were gold.
Some creative death scenes too.
Narratively it did lose a bit of steam near the end.

Edgar Wright is remaking it with Glenn Powell. I really like Wright so I actually have high hopes for it

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (stupid name) was god awful. Nonsensical plot, foolish motivations, easily forgettable characters, zero style. It's like they decided to make a film that removed everything that was great in the first one. You can't even hate watch it as it's two plus hours of boredom and waste.

To be fair, it is pretty sexy...

No, they just labeled it that way to confuse people.

The '70s did sci-fi dystopia really well. Silent Running and THX-1138 haven't been mentioned yet, but are both worth the watch.

This was free on Youtube, so i had it on in the background while doing some work over the weekend.
It's interesting given the timing of the films creation (1941, i believe) that it is part movie, part propaganda piece.
The film essentially runs into 4 different Canadian groups, each of whom are picked due to their supposed/perceived/feared lack of support for the war effort:
- French Canadians
- First Nations
- Hutterites
- left-leaning artists/liberals
Each group was met with a spiel by a german officer about the benefits of Nazi-ism / pan-germanism, which is ultimately shut down by a member of those groups.
a subtle (at the time) way of uniting the country.

Haven't been to many movies in the past several months. Had a realization:
So I went on Ozempic, lost 30 pounds, got off Ozempic and now I'm sitting pretty where I want to be.
Turns out I didn't enjoy going to movies so much as I enjoyed going for popcorn, and I'd catch a movie while I was munching. Once I didn't crave the popcorn, I couldn't be bothered with movies.
