Sure, but are they hoping to get a replacement for Gaudreau skill-wise? Probably not right now They need NHL players and to pay cap.

Asking price is high: 2nd round pick.
Acquiring teams are concerned that if the Flyers are having trouble with him, they will have the same problems with him too. So not sure if it is worth it.

The problem with Calgary trading any 2nd round pick is how high a pick it is.
Much easier trading a late 2nd.

Flames are holding the Avs 2nd for next year (definitely do not think they should be using it on a goalie at this time)

I would think the Flyers have to let teams talk to Kolosov or his agent. Maybe he's thinking they have Ersson and they signed Fedotov for a couple of years for decent money and he'd rather play in the KHL then in the AHL with little chance for promotion.
But for that kind of risk, a 2nd is definitely high.

I don't know much about Alexei Kolosov, but if he's a legit top-end goalie prospect...a 2nd round pick doesn't seem like a bad deal. I'd be cool to see the Flames move Colorado's (?) 2nd (if this guy is in fact a legit top-end goalie prospect).
If he's trending well at 22 and looks like a high end goalie prospect? There's sillier things to spend a 2nd round pick on.
I wouldn't advocate for it I guess, but if it were to happen I'd be okay with that considering it means the Flames scouts would clearly be high on the guy if they were willing spend that kind of asset to acquire him.
Goalies are voodoo and having a fleet of them provides the best opportunity to find something of consequence.
The funny thing (if the Flames are in fact interested) is that Kolosov is only 6'0", which is what Wolf shows on HockeyDB as well. Two goalies at 6'0"? The Flames would have to really believe in Kolosov to do it.

A couple of good quotes from Weegar
Quote:
"It's easy to get out of all whack when you see guys trying to leave or wanting new contracts," the 30-year-old from Ottawa said at last week's NHL/NHLPA player media tour in Las Vegas. "I just focus on where I am and where I want to be, and that's Calgary.
"I believe in this team. The city has taken me in right away. I feel like I owe it to them to stick around and grind through these years and get a Stanley Cup."
|
Quote:
"You have to build that culture and that belief in the locker room," said Weegar, who pointed to 22-year-old centre Connor Zary as a player set to pop. "Those young guys are going to have to come into their own and be consistent every night … they're the next generation."
|
After listening to guys like Weegar it really makes me want to believe in this team. I'm still fully on team rebuild, but it would be a ton of fun to see them have some success.

Stick around and grind through these years makes it seem like he knows what is happening.
Unfortunately it isn't a few years.

I think the forwards will be fine, relatively speaking. Their top 12 looks reasonable to me.
Their bottom 4 dmen and goalie will likely be league worse or close to it. That's where they will need a surprise or 3. If Wolf takes a huge step, that could be a big difference maker.

Who knows how these things go.
Probably not a couple of years, don't recall many teams entering a rebuild and coming out of it in 2 years. I could be wrong.

Said it yesterday ... a decent looking forward group is irrelevant if they don't get the puck, and a weak defense will generally be weak on the transition meaning they won't produce up front.

Not exactly the most fleet of foot group either, so having them skate the puck is going to be an issue as well. Adding Barrie to the mix doesn't help the team speed from the backend.

I think there's a good chance that we'll be at least average in transition. One pairing will have Andersson, the other Miromanov, and Weegar. It seems that a long as they can stay healthy they'll do alright.
I'm more concerned about stopping the other team's cycle in our own zone, and getting the puck back. That's where I really hope the forwards help the D out. Also maybe Bahl will turn out to be a gem defensively.

Not a rumour, but random NHL news.
Dakota Joshua will miss the start of camp after undergoing treatment for cancer.
https://theprovince.com/sports/hocke...ticular-cancer
Brutal news, but it sounds like the treatment was successful and the tumour was removed. I admire the way he plays and hope he has a full recovery, and never has to deal with this again.

I understand pencilling in this D corps as weak. It's loaded with players who haven't done much at the NHL level but I think Conroy targeted those players specifically because they are at the age where they'll make the jump to full time.
I'm talking about the ilk of Bahl, Miromanov, Pachal, Grushnikov, Solovyov, Bean.
There's enough mud to throw at the wall and there's a chance 2 of them make a significant jump. My guess is Bahl and Bean. Although I really really like Grushnikov too.
The fun part for me about this upcoming season is who will rise to the top. I believe as fans we are going to be pleasantly surprised by a few of these D men this year.

I know a pass first LW who set a record for assists at the position a couple seasons ago. Roughly the same age and cap hit as JG.

I realize this is tongue in cheek but, man, if Huberdeau could be anywhere near point per game that would like winning the lottery for this club.

I can see it but it probably requires a change of scenery. Stick him in Edmonton and I almost guarantee it.
