If Treliving could parley walk-on Stone into a pick, that’s gravy. I could see Nesterov, Nordstrom, Leivo going. Really cheap backup help.

I keep thinking Nesterov will find his way to Montreal, for like a 7th. Leivo back to the Leafs perhaps.

Not great for them. Could see Bennett or Nordstrom make their way there.

You don't blind side players but I'm sure if you're going to rebuild guys like Markstrom and Tanev would probably welcome a trade.

I assume Ryan fetches next to nothing at the deadline. Wonder if he’s be willing to accept a low money deal. He won’t have many suitors in free agency and I don’t consider him part of the problem.

I don’t see the Habs trading again for Nesterov at the deadline.

With so many unknowns and a lack of info on prospects I figure get a bunch of 3rd/4th round picks. Lots of guys that look like later picks could end up being risers that just didn't get a chance to show it.

I don’t get this. Ryan’s a good player and he had a lot of interest around the league when he was a UFA. RHS C who can play effective bottom 6 role, I think (hope) the Flames could get a 3rd for him.

Just a reminder:

The Carolina Hurricanes' seventh-round pick went to the Calgary Flames as the result of a trade on June 29, 2017 that sent Keegan Kanzig and a sixth-round pick in 2019 to Carolina in exchange for Eddie Lack, Ryan Murphy and this pick.[100]
|
Flames selected Dustin Wolf with that 7th round pick.
A draft pick is a bullet in the chamber. Any added pick is a good pick.

You take whatever pick Ryan gets you and resign him at a lower number in the off season.

This is the team that gave up draft picks for useless players at previous deadlines but that’s another conversation.
Not every UFA gets dealt at the deadline.

If you retain the max, you will get interest. Ryan can help any team.

Tree has shown himself to be pretty resourceful when it comes to selling at the deadline.
He snagged us a 6th rounder and Nik Backstrom for David Jones once upon a time.
Add picks where you can.

Well let’s see. He has passed through waivers twice this season but his cap hit is lower now so that helps.
Does Ryan take less money now in a contract offer vs waiting until the offseason? We’ve seen lots of veterans stuck in limbo as free agency passes them by.
It would have to be really cheap before I’d do it from a Flames perspective. Like under a million cheap.

Probably his best stuff, along with RFA deals especially for Lindholm and Hanifin, is his sell off ability. Glencross, Hudler, Sven were all good deals as it turns out.

Yep. He’s a good salesman.
Russell returned us a conditional 2nd, Jokipakka, and Pollock. That 2nd almost became a 1st.
Hudler returned 2nd and 4th round picks.
Glencross returned 2nd and 3rd round picks.
Baertschi returned a 2nd round pick.
Has he been a good buyer? Hell no. I’d say he’s been awful at that, but selling? He’s been good.
