More seriously though, I think Newsom would have issues in some states he'd need to win with being from California.
I think being from CA is only an advantage if you're a Republican and can carry it (in which case you'd almost certainly win). As a Democrat CA has to be regarded as a safe state, but it has such a left-wing reputation that I think it'd be a downside for attracting moderates in the rust belt states, which is a group that has outsize electoral power.

I agree with this, but also agree that Biden should be stepping aside. Just run the country for the next 2 years and let someone else deal with running and support them.
