It was suggested on one of the podcasts (I think 32 thoughts?) that bettman has asked the teams to announce any major trades at the draft. Obviously they don’t have to listen but sounds like there’s a huge push to have this draft be a spectacle. Partially because it’s at the sphere, and partially because it’s the last full in person one.
I have read some stuff online that they expect a TON of trades and player movement this summer because there is finally going to be a cap increase and likely increases over the next several years teams finally have flexibility.

Frankly, I think what the NHL is doing there is a mistake. I think there are very few things the the NHL does better then the other members of the big four and the draft is/was one of them.
I get the logistics of it... but the NHL draft is the only one that I consider destination viewing. The rest I'll just wait for a notification on my phone if anything interesting happens.

Bettman looks like the Count from Sesame Street. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. If he dressed up as the Count during the NHL draft and embraced the boos like a true villain, it would turn the 2024 draft from great to legendary.
Spoiler!

Whatever source has told Royle and Bourque's Twin, I think this story has become a poorly kept secret because Warrener and Boomer both know what's happening (IMO) if you watch a recent short on their youtube channel. Heavily suggesting business in the pipe, and Markstrom won't be a Flame anymore

I’m sure he does this all the time. I wonder how much GM’s listen to him. It does seem really rare for a big trade to happen during the SCF or even during playoffs in general. What kind of pressure can he put on an ownership/GM to listen to him on delaying trades?
I imagine Bettman was pretty mad at last year’s draft because absolutely no trades happened in the first round (and maybe the second?). Nothing to announce. Nothing exciting. Would be funny if he started incentivizing ownership groups to have their GM’s make some trades at the draft… “I’ll give the all star game to the first team in the top ten to trade their pick at the draft.”
Not really buying the hype. So what you get 2 camera shots on TV of the sphere. for the actual programming the setting becomes irrelevant, all drafts look the same. The viewer thinks about the setting for all of 3 seconds. Asking GMs to hold off business for multiple weeks is odd.
The sphere is a gaudy eyesore anyway.

Yeah it really takes away from the natural aesthetic they have going on there in LV.

Only saw it from the outside but seems awesome to me.
