Of course it is self serving for athletes to question this. What is wrong with that?
What percentage of the population is tested every 72 hours? One in ten thousand? Less? In certain settings, perhaps it makes perfect sense.
These arguments that players are dumb, or rich or whatever and should just suck it up don't really address the question of what would be most helpful.

NHL teams regularly travel within their own border and cross into another country, I'd say regular testing is totally acceptable. This is one of those settings where it makes sense.
If if entitlement doesn't address your question of helpfulness, what does?

I don't know what entitlement really has to do with this. We can't discuss what an appropriate protocol is for pro athletes without commenting on their personalities, education or income? Seems irrelevant to me.
Is travel really increasing the spread of Covid? Probably, yet there is no testing at airports. Pilots, flight attendants aren't tested every 72 hours.
Yes hockey players should follow the same cross border protocols as everybody else. But those don't make that much sense to me either, for reasons I've explained earlier.
As I've said, I'd love to see some holistic testing guidance based on risk factors that make sense for the situation today.

Agree to disagree.

Like I said, the question isn't why are the players tested it is why aren't we testing others more.

Other businesses and segments of society has no relation to what is right for pro sports leagues. We know there are a million things that could be better in retirement castles. Should airlines do more testing? Perhaps...I'd be slightly more likely to book on an airline that did. At least all of those parties can be masked and distancing can be generally observed. There also isn't really a farm team of flight attendants or healthcare workers that can be called up at very short notice.
I'd be more annoyed with the hygiene theatre of coaches wearing KN95s...unless of course they want to yell.
Also, if I were a player, I would be a lot less comfortable proceeding if they eased things up...I'm sure there are plenty of guys on that side of the fence, too.

I see it differently. I don't know how you debate what is right for pro sports in a vacuum without considering what is best for everyone as a whole? Why do we even care whether pro athletes are tested every 72 hours? Because of the impact on the larger community? Or is it that we care about the players well being?
I hear you on your views if you were a player. Sounds like you are saying you would want a voice in your protocols and I would agree with you.
IMO the larger community would be better off if the Calgary Flames donated the thousands of tests they have set aside for the remainder of the year to retirement homes in the Calgary community. Maybe some players wouldn't like that because they want to work in a heavily tested environment. I'd say deal with that the same way as other employers and workplaces do.

I guess you're making a point about player entitlement, I'm just not getting it. Sorry. To me it's just a debate about policy.
As for testing others more, if we believe that testing everyone every 72 hours is the right approach, I guess I'll say OK. But let's not start with pro hockey players.

We're not starting with pro hockey players; you mentioned long term care facilities, medical staff there are already routinely tested as well. Also we have to start somewhere, why not hockey players?
Not at all getting where you're coming from with this hardcore defence of it.
In one or two weeks time all the Flames will have recovered and will be back, an annoying but totally recoverable situation.

So you’re saying people should always ask “why” in a democracy?
I agree with you. Many don’t these days.
But the players are the most immersed in what’s going on. They’re also watching what’s going on in other leagues. If they think it’s overkill. It probably is.

Maybe we’re just talking past each other. I don’t know what I’m hard core defending, I would like some reasonable protocols that make sense to apply broadly.
The NHL can do what they want if it’s more rigorous than community regulations, no question. But then they need to listen to their stakeholders just like any other business. If their players don’t like it, well that needs to be a consideration. I’m not going to attack them for having views on what might be reasonable.

But that's not really the choice here...why would it be the NHL's responsibility to give a handful of tests to each community they're in? If they want to reduce their testing, they'll just stop ordering and strategically use their stock.
I'd argue that each NHL team donating their ~100 tests per week to the community would be completely negligible.
Lastly, it might be a bit of a wakeup call for society writ large how quickly it has spread through teams like CGY and NAS despite strict protocols. It may have been minor for most of the players, but that's probably less true for each degree of spread from them.

Hearing that all tickets to the BoA have been voided and original ticket buyer will receive a refund? I haven’t gotten an email about that but some people say that have. Can anyone confirm?

Anyone wanna try to explain why they can’t refund the people who have the tickets in the account instead of the original buyer? Seems like people are about to be screwed unless you’re the original buyer..

Not true. The game has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Same status as the Leafs, Blue Jackets, Ducks and Kraken games.

That contradicts the email I received from the Flames.
