Apparently Tampa challenged 2 different things on that challenge in the 2nd: the play at first and the play at home. My understanding was that if you challenge unsuccessfully, you are done for the day.
Their first challenge (first base) failed, so shouldn't that mean that they don't get the second challenge?

####ing Rays. I don’t know what the heck Montoyo was doing replacing Shoemaker so soon. Only at 74 pitches. Like why can’t pitchers pitch past the 5th inning Charlie?

This is my biggest complaint with him this season.
They have had tired arms in the bullpen all year, but he keeps pulling the starters out at about 70 pitches.

Pull out the starting pitcher, who was dealing, after 74 pitches and bring in a guy who walks the first two batters he sees.
and then surprise, surprise, a two-run double
Hard to beat the Rays AND Montoyo

that is a perfect example of stats being self-defeating...
the reason Montoyo likely pulled him is the fact that batting averages tend to be higher for a pitcher's 3rd time through the order. Well, yeah. But just saying 'let's avoid that, pull him earlier' doesn't consider the consequences of the change - when you pull all your starters quicker (your best pitchers), you give your bullpen more batters and you put more pressure on them. Well guess what? They are going to give up even more runs than the starters would have.
Montoyo just keeps doing this. And the results continue to bite him in the ass.

Montoyo is beyond horrendous. Nothing he does makes any sense.

I hate almost all of Montoyo’s decisions.
I’ve watched/played baseball literally my entire life, and I KNOW that he’s forgotten more about the game than I’ll ever know - but how am I constantly disagreeing with absolutely everything?
Am I that far out to lunch? It’s frustrating as a fan that thinks he knows the game fairly well! LOL

Glad to see Joe Siddall speak up on the early hook - not because he felt the same way as I do, but because it is too rare to see the commentators say anything critical.
It was a terrible decision by Montoyo, so good for Joe to say so.

Guerrero was robbed
3 or 4 solid line drives from him today though, he has been hitting the ball a lot better lately

Dan's worried about facing Lowe, but I would rather face him now than in the 10th with no one out

Atta boy Biggio! Now do you bunt and play small ball for the second run or go for the big inning?

Help, save, whatever.

I think Romano is more comfortable as a setup guy. I think this is the second time I've seen him struggle as a closer.
If Giles can remain heathy for a while him and Romano would make a pretty good closing duo.

He's only given up 2 runs this year. And Tampa has some bats
And if not for the guy on 2nd rule, he wouldn't have given up a run tonight
