McKenzie: dealbreaker for Flames is that Sens want Valimaki in Stone package

Tolvanen isn’t in the same class as Valimaki or the other prospects the Sens are targeting. The best prospect Nashville has is Fabbro and he can walk as a UFA college free agent

Frolik isn't going anywhere he has a ten team no trade clause and Ottawa is surely on that list if he's asked to submit.

1st in 2019, Kylington and Mangipagne, with a conditional 1st in 2020, should get the job done. Seems more than fair and reasonable. Still not sure I make the deal as I see Kylington a Brodie replacement, which will help the Flames recoup some picks and prospects in the summer.

I'd think that we still have the most appealing deal on the table, and that when push comes to shove and Ottawa gets this down to the wire - it'll be the Calgary deal, and it'll still be a hell of a haul for Ottawa it just won't include Vali.

I think the first paragraph is important.
If the equivalent return for their asking price was reasonable for other teams, it would be done. And the Sens just need one team to bite. The fact that no team has given in means that their asking currently is too high.
As an aside, I think Dorian’s job is very much on the line with this deal. If Stone walks after the season with no assets gained, they finish last without their 1st rounder, it’s even worse optics. If Stone was going to re-sign, they would have the commitment before the trade deadline. It seems apparent that he’s not, or else the Sens really don’t know what they’re doing. In the end, Dorian needs a solid return from Stone to save his job. But the risk of a mediocre deal is worse than the risk of losing him for nothing. The other teams know this. It’s the perfect situation to shake him down right until the last minute.

TBH I would rather trade Brodie than any of our D prospects.
1st, Brodie, prospect and that's about it.

I really don't want to lose any of Kylington, Andersson or Valimaki.
...but I really want Stone...

I'd be up for seriously considering moving Brodie if that would get it done

The only issue with trading Brodie IMO is upsetting the team chemistry.
I still think the best thing we can do here is somehow drive up the price and walk away. Let someone else trade the farm for this guy.

Ignorant of how conversations have gone over the past while, with 2 hours left until the deadline and the Flames desire to know that Stone would re-sign, this seems to be getting less and less likely.

So any rumors Stone would agree to sign on top of this high asking price? Just seems like a pain in the ass to get this to work.

If Stone doesn't materialize (which seems highly likely at this point), I'm perfectly content standing pat and seeing what this group can do. We can do some damage in the off-season with the assets we have.

It's the downgraded offer vs. what they're apparently asking for. Would suck to lose Dube but we don't have a lot of room for him in the lineup in he next few years anyway, and we're only making the deal if we're signing Stone which would just be another guy in Dube's way.
|
The Flames already said they would not trade their 1st rounder for a rental, but you think they would trade a 1st rounder, Dube and Kylington for a rental? You crazy.
The most I would trade for Stone would be 2019 1st, conditional 2020 1st (if re-signs), Mangiapane and Frolik.

Stone is most definitely a better player than Duchesne. But how much better? Why did Duchesne move so easily for a fairly palatable price, yet it feels like they're going to screw up Stone.

aka: Ottawa is holding out until the last minute and teams are not upping their offers, so Ottawa is looking at the offers on the table.
