$100 donated. This has made it to the news here in Australia with my colleagues all asking about it.

That map is amazing, Fuzz. Looks like my old house is still standing. I have two friends who have lost everything. This has been hard to take, at least for the flood I was able to physically help out. Being so far away....

I was talking to a claims advisor at TD Insurance today and she mentioned how tough it's been on the phone lines working with McMurray folks who have had a total loss event. One of the steps to do is to try and recite an inventory of what they've lost (as best they can) but that usually triggers tears as one would expect once they realize the irreplacable items lost.

One important fact to remember - typically insurance pays out for you to rebuild the affected structure. It does not let you get paid out and move elsewhere. An important fact to remember given the housing market in Ft. Mac.

Sorry, just to clarify, has the Nexen facility been overcome by the fires?

Already kicked in 5 bills before seeing this thread. Is there a CP-specific link for donation? I'm in for a few more.

Add another $100 to the tally. Getting a company match too, which is great. Love to see how the CP community is coming together for this cause.

There has been nothing in the news about it, but if you look at my update here:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...postcount=1026
you can see it has lots of hot spots and the main body of the fire is moving that direction. It could be the satellite is picking up hot spots that are in the cloud/ash and the facility is OK.

Wife and I will be donating $200 to Red Cross. Just waiting for her company to finalize their process of matching donations.

Also, from the Nexen website:
Quote:
Update - May 5, 2016
On the afternoon of May 4, Nexen began a planned, precautionary shutdown of our Long Lake facility to ensure the safety of our people at site in the event the fire did reach our location.
This shutdown has been completed; all remaining personnel on site have been safely evacuated from the facility.
This followed mandatory evacuation orders for the neighboring communities of Anzac and Fort McMurray First Nation.
Nexen is fully cooperating with the province and the emergency response efforts. We will continue to provide support to help battle the fire.
That is the latest info they have.

$200 from me.

My buddy has been getting calls from everyone he knows in Ft. Mac. After losing his house in Slave Lake and now Ft. Mac everyone assumes he is an expert in the process.

Not a CP-specific one, no. This is just a running tally of donations to the Red Cross from CP of what people have posted or have PM'd me.

We are now over $22,786 $22,836 $22,936 $23,121 donated to the Red Cross by members, (and their families,) of CalgaryPuck.

I'm out of Thanks again, but know that I am thanking you all regardless.

Again, this is not a competition for who can donate the most or anything like that. This is just to showcase the coming together that this community is capable of. Those of you that feel bad because you can't donate, or aren't able to donate enough, please know that you are every bit apart of this as someone that can. Take pride in that.

Made a donation,

Thread seems to have become a circle jerk of stating your donation amount, rather than news about Fort Mac. Having to fish through 15 posts of varying amount to see any actual updates

Doesn't seem that way at all, actually. Just a way to track donations made by CP members.

Maybe, but it gets more people to donate!

Maybe not the intent of the thread, but it is a good thing!

Strongly disagree. Seeing how generous others have been was definitely infectious for me, and motivating me to give as much as I could personally. I'm willing to bet we've probably raised twice as much by people posting their donations and motivating others to pitch in, no matter what the amount.
