Going back to Kingston for sure now.

I might hold off until Mr Millions give his diagnosis.

I really think we are in for a horrible year standings wise. It will be nice to get to cheer for a Flame player to shine at the world juniors. Bennett and Klimchuck could be key cogs for the team this year.
Sam is the type of player that will make an impact as a 19 year old but he needs to get bigger and stronger and should go back to junior this year

Is Klimchuk a favorite to make the WJC team? I know he's played with McDavid & Bennett previously but I think we can have a great team so not sure if Morgan can crack the line up.

How many other 2013 first rounders will be available and young enough to play?
Hoping Klimchuck makes it

Yeah, he was hurt against Vancouver. Bennett seems to be exerting himself a little too much, which is in the nature of his game according to his coach. But he's going to need the size and strength to facilitate that kind of game each night, if that's the way he's gonna play. Going back to junior is definitely best for this kid. Needs to come back next training camp with another 15lbs, like Monahan.

Even next year at this time, he will only be roughly 4 months older than Monahan was last year at the start of the season. Time is definitely on his side.

Send him back already, him getting hurt in both the prospects camp along with the few pre-season games is a clear indication that he isn't physically ready to play with the big boys. Love that he has the skill and brains to play at the NHL level; just needs to develop into that NHL body.

I was in Penticton yesterday and was driving down Main Street. I enjoyed how there is an intersection flanked by Bennett Ave and Calgary Ave.
Edit: I posted this on twitter and Sam favourited it. It made my day.

"Are the Flames rushing Bennett?"

Did I miss the memo that Bennett has made the team?

^ I was about to post that.
LeBrun kind of ground my gears with that McDavid crap. Whats that got to do with Bennett and rushing him? Nothing at all.
"Just send the kid back, you're not going to win a cup, worry about getting McDavid. They're not going to say it, but I'll say it for them." What a D-Bag string of comments from LeBrun, and I like the guy 99% of the time.

Biron is dumb. He's not 19-20. He's 8 months younger than draisatl. 7 months younger than reinhart, and 4 younger than Ekblad. He's the youngest of the top prospects. They just look for anything to talk about.

The Flames should be worried about having a good season and making sure their young guys take the next step forward.
Don't know how they can worry about McDavid when that's out of their control.

Ew, I don't like reading articles by Damien Cox I agree with:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/t...but-different/
Quote:
Nobody, at this point, would suggest the Calgary Flames did the wrong thing by keeping Sean Monahan in the NHL last season.
Maybe that will come later. Maybe if Monahan doesn’t ultimately become Alberta’s version of Ron Francis, somebody might wonder if another year of dominating junior hockey and playing in the world juniors would have benefitted him more.
But not right now. Monahan’s happy, the Flames are happy after his 22-goal debut and Calgary fans are pleased they have a living, breathing reason to believe in the future.
So why does it appear things are going to be so different with Sam Bennett?
|
Quote:
Monahan (born Oct. 12 1994) was almost 19 years old when the season started last fall. Bennett (born June 20, 1996) won’t be 19 for another eight months and 20 days.
That’s a big difference, and it matters. In other words, Monahan was basically two-thirds of a year older when he cracked the NHL in his first try.
Second, Bennett and Monahan are not similarly built. Monahan will play as a power forward, and easily added another layer of muscle to his frame over this summer. We can argue whether he was mentally prepared last spring for the NHL or at the right skill level, but physically, he could handle it.
Bennett’s a smaller player who plays like he’s six-foot-four. It’s going to take some time for him to fill out, and given that he’s going to make his living with the puck on his stick dodging mean-spirited defenders, he better be ready to take some punishment when he arrives in the NHL for good. An injury in rookie camp, and now another minor one in the NHL exhibition season, reinforces the notion that making the jump to the NHL right now could be a major physical challenge.
|
Quote:
Last year at this time, it was a mess. Nobody believed Brian Burke and Jay Feaster would co-exist for long (they didn’t), Bob Hartley’s ability to guide a talent-challenged team was in question and the hockey club was in need of establishing its credibility with the Calgary market and putting in place some kind of foundation and structure to move forward.
Now, Brad Treliving is in place as the new GM, Hartley received kudos all around for his work last season, the roster is organized around respected captain Mark Giordano and the team seems to have a new personality as a hard-nosed, lunch bucket group.
They may have needed Monahan to sell to the public last fall. They don’t need Bennett in the same way this fall.
|
Quote:
The Flames aren’t going to say this. Burke, you know, will publicly rant against even the notion that his team isn’t trying to win every night. He’ll point to the off-season signing of Jonas Hiller as proof the club isn’t tanking.
Moreover, it could make for some dark days in January if this season is a major struggle for the Flames, and a bright young talent like Bennett might make those days a wee bit brighter.
But this is a sophisticated hockey market that understands a top-three pick next June is worth double a pick from No. 5 to No. 10. And Johnny Hockey can add a little light in those winter months.
|
Quote:
So back to junior for Bennett makes sense on pretty much every level. The young man may try to make a case over the next few days that he, like Monahan, can contribute right away and doesn’t need another year in junior.
It’s not necessarily that he’s not ready. It’s more a case of he doesn’t have to be.

When I think of Sam Bennett, I think of the guy who pretended he couldn't do a chin up so he could avoid being selected by the Oilers.

He's shown he's got a ton of skill and a serious motor, he's shown he's going to be a major piece going forward. However, he's also taken a "knock" or a "bump" a couple times already. I don't believe that the Flames are going to keep him up, why not just keep him out at this point and send him down. Based on that belief that they're most likely sending him down anyway, I don't see the point ... he's not quite physically ready yet, and that's ok.

He hurt his groin playing against kids his age and he had such a minor injury in Van that he could still finish the game. He's fine, they're probably just being cautious.
