Beat first place teams. Lose to last place teams.
Hey, at least if we make the playoffs, we should be in good shape, right? LOL

Strange play on the go here.
Bases loaded and Gose AB with one out.
Goses grounds to the 1st baseman who clearly tags Kawasaki going 1st to 2nd.
Ump calls him safe though
1st baseman comes home, where the catcher assumes a force, doesn't tag EE who then crosses the plate.
Gibbons comes out to ask for the play to be reviewed hoping Kawasaki is called out so that EE's run then counts.
I've never seen a review where the manager hopes his player is called out.

This replay process is still a bag of crap. Should work in the Jays favour but good grief, Melvin is gonna lose mind when the run counts.

And there you go - they rule Kawasaki was out so EE's run counts.
Never seen that!

Why? It was a terrible miss by the ump coupled with a horrible decision by the 1st baseman. They got the call right. That's the point.

what does play under protest mean? Should I still be watching this?

Well I hate how they can review nearly every call. Replays should be to get the call right, did not happen in this case. The catcher was fooled buy the umps missed call, he clearly played like a forced play.

Means they play the game and then the league will hear the protest and if they agree a mistake was made they will replay from that point on.
I don't know if that's ever happened though has it?

I hate how the managers come out to buy time for their guys to tell them if they should review. That is flawed. But in this case it worked out with the call being made right.
Edit: Catcher was put in a tough spot there I agree. Ultimately a bad mistake by the ump because there is no way to correct it.

That sucks for the A's but can't imagine the league does anything about that.

Now tied with Baltimore.
First time since May 21st that the Jays haven't been in sole possession of 1st in the AL East.

Dickey has to be the least inspiring pitcher in the MLB. I have zero faith in him when he's on the plate. What a dud. Can't wait til he's gone.

Dickey pitched very well tonight. His defense let him down and the offense couldn't get anything going. Wasn't his fault at all.

Gibbons should've had Dickey out after the 7th. His last few starts (and in general, all season) teams have started to tee off on him the 3rd and 4th time through the lineup after getting used to the knuckleball and him losing some placement as he tires.
He had a solid 7 though.
Not in sole possession of first, for the first time since May long weekend.

Overall a pretty good outing from Dickey. Defence was sloppy tonight and the difference in my mind. Edwin in left isn't the answer. I guess he told Gibbons he doesn't want to be there, but I think I'd rather have him at 3B and a natural outfielder in left.
