LOL 30 years? "half baked other"? How about the Texas A&M 12th man that just passed it's 90th anniversary? Seattle done stole that crap. I hate A&M and have been to both Seattle and A&M games. Guess whose is better? A&M's even when the team sucks. Also, guess who pays A&M to use the phrase? Seattle is a "half baked other".
I appreciate the Seattle fan base passion, and I don't think that a few fans are representative of a bunch. However, Seattle couldn't even come up with their own fanbase nickname so I find it humorous when a fan calls out other teams "half baked attempts."
Seattle pays $5000/year for the use of that term, that's basically pocket change.

Texas A&M trademark issues and Seattle Seahawks lawsuit
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued trademark registrations to Texas A&M for "12th Man" and "Home of the 12th Man" (See U.S. Reg. Nos. 1948306, 4301538, 3354769 and 1612053), one or more of which has achieved incontestable status with the Patent and Trademark Office. According to statements made by Texas A&M officials, they sent requests to stop using the phrase to the Seattle Seahawks (2004, 2005), Buffalo Bills (undated), and the Chicago Bears (undated). Both the Bills and the Bears responded to the requests stating they would no longer use the phrase, however the Seahawks did not respond to the request.
In January 2006, Texas A&M filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Seattle Seahawks to protect the trademark and in May 2006, the dispute was settled out of court. In the agreement, Texas A&M licensed the Seahawks to continue using the phrase "12th Man" in exchange for financial compensation along with public acknowledgement by the NFL franchise as to Texas A&M's ownership of the phrase.[26] The compensation amounted to $5000 per year, or little more than nuisance value.[27]
Never said it was a substantial amount. It is an acknowledgement that they took someone else's tradition and made it their own. A&M could have told them to cease using it or made them pay much more, but they just wanted the acknowledgement that it's their property.
I've been a 49er fan since birth. Bandwagon has nothing to do with where you're from, obviously with Canada having no NFL teams, Canadians have favourite teams all over the US.
So my question to you is "Why the 49ers?" Did you start cheering for them before 1981 when they won the Super Bowl for the first time? Depending on your age, my guess would be that you either started cheering for them because that was your father's team, or you started cheering for them because they were winning those 5 Super Bowls you proudly claim as your own. Wouldn't that make you (or your Dad) a bandwagon fan, at least at the beginning? Did you wear your 49er gear proudly in 2004-2005, when your beloved team went 6-26? I highly doubt it, but it doesn't matter to anyone here anyway.
Myself, like many Calgarians, grew up as Seahawks fans and watched them every Sunday thanks to American channels based out of Spokane. We have suffered through many dark periods, almost saw our team moved to Anaheim in 1990, watched them come close to winning in Super Bowl XL and then fall only to rise again last year. Many of us have even travelled to Seattle for the odd game. We are not Seahawk fans because it is easy, that's for sure! Now, our team is once again NFC champions, and February 2, 2014 may become a day as important to some of us as May 25, 1989 is to all of us. Sorry that it offends you so much.
(Now before I get outed by Pilsner 12, I have to admit I did stray a bit in the late 90's and started to following the Buccaneers, mostly because of Mike Alstott and the cool new uniforms they introduced in 1997, but I dropped them cold turkey in June 2004! )
Anyway, I'm no longer concerned about anything other than enjoying the upcoming two weeks, and maybe baiting some of the Bronco fans on CP, but I will share this video of Navarro Bowman ripping up a Seahawk fan's poster outside the same tunnel he had popcorn spilled on him accidentally.

30 years, yes, the Seahawks retired the #12 jersey in 1984.
And I wasn't talking about A&M, to whom the Seahawks pay an "licensing" amount (nominal) each year, to use the name with A&M's permission, by "half baked"; I was referring to the "7th man" (Canucks) and 13th man (Sask Riders) that was brought up in Bar-Down's post.
I rarely watch the NFL but I caught the two matches last weekend. A question for you avid followers: are there normally that many commercials during the regular season? I felt like I was watching an infomercial.

It's getting sad eh?. It's just a crap load of commercials with a few football plays thrown in the middle. I went to a NCAA game 4 years ago in South Bend and it took 4 hours from start to finish. It's ridiculous.

Advertisers have taken too much control of the broadcast of games. Since it's one of the few platforms where the audience will see your ads, they will gladly pay a premium to drown you with them.
I do wish the NFL would limit the amount of commercials per quarter like the NHL (and CFL?) does, but I have a better chance of seeing pigs fly probably.

The Bronco's - Pat's game finished in under 3 hours so that's as good as it gets for commercials! Since there is a commercial at every change of possession you can thank Manning and his surgical 7 minute drives for eliminating a bunch of breaks.
But yeah the commercials thing is getting out of hand and CTV's crappy job of simulcasting certainly doesn't hep!
Don't worry though, the Superbowl will be 5 hours long so you'll have an extra 2 hours of commercials to help bring the ratio up to 4 hours of commercial to 1 hour of game time!
If blackouts and attendance issues continue to plague the NFL, you can expect even MORE commercials. More TV viewers = more to charge for rights = more advertising to help pay for rights. Even more likely considering the NFL just had its biggest championship weekend ever in terms of ratings.

The commercial breaks on either side of the kickoff were the worst part of it. I can live with all the rest.
Meh... now that they've effectively eliminated any excitement from kickoffs with moving the tee up 5 yards to guarantee constant touchbacks you can just treat the kickoff as one very long extended commercial break! Team A scores a touchdown and 7 minutes later Team B has the ball on their own 20 yard line.
Depending on where you live a touchdown affords you enough commercial break to run to the store for beer!

CTV did that for you when they didn't get back from break in time and missed a kick off.
And that was before they missed the 4th down play.

Being a 49er fan actually started out from my Grandpa, then I became a fan every since I was young because of my Dad. So it's just been passed on.
They've had some dark times for sure and some great times, but I've never cheered for anyone else.
Im not offended at all. Just dislike towards my teams rivals (Seattle, Riders, Canucks)
Good Luck in two weeks.

My point is the Seahawks attempt at a 12th man is just as half baked as they are also copying someone else.
Sorry to interupt the "which fanbase base is better" argument...
Seems like this is the first time in years that there is no clear cut favorite among the SB competitors. This year the line started with Seatle as a slight favorite and then moved to Denver as the slight favorite. I wouldn't be surprised if it switched a couple more times before the game.
I think the Broncos will have a tough time passing on the Seahawks. Manning likes to hit the quick, short passes but the Hawks corners are really physical at the line and may disrupt the WR routs. However, I expect to see Manning use more no-huddle than he did against the Pats and that could slow the Seattle defense down. Also, the Broncos have demonstrated that they can run the ball effectively. I think the Broncos O has a slight advantage over the Hawks D but it's not that significant. The Broncos will get points (especially with the no huddle offense) but in the quick offense they are also more likely to turn the ball over, which Seattle thrives on.
To me, the real key in the game is on the other side: Hawks offense against the Broncos D. Lynch is a great back and he is dangerous every touch. He can really wear down a defense. The Broncos defense is not statistically very good this year but that's mostly the passing D. The run D is actually pretty good. So, if they can limit Lynch (you can't stop him entirely) and Manning is able to get some points, it will be on Wilson to win the game through the air. The Broncos have struggled this year in passing defense, although, a lot of the yards and points scored have been in situation where the team has a big lead and either plays a passive prevent D or they simply let down at the end of the game. Meanwhile, the Seattle wide receivers are an under-rated group and can certainly make some plays. So, to me the game comes down to:
-Broncos pass rush vs. Seahawks protection (and Wilson escapability)
-Seahawks receivers vs. Broncos defensive backs
My prediction is that Sherman basically shuts down D.Thomas, Chancellor controls Decker and the safeties keep J.Thomas in check. However, I think Welker will be the key for the Broncos and their quick plays tire out the defense, Manning takes advantage of matchups and they put points on the board. I think Lynch has a big first half but the Hawks abandon the run in the second to play catch-up.
26-17 Broncos
