I don't like our chances, the other teams are much more experienced at tanking.

buffalo has a no brainer pick in my opinion, as they have so many great d prospects. They'll take reinhart i think. Edmonton will have the luxury of yet another no brainer if they pick second, as they need a strong center or a big D, so they'll just take whatever's left if they pick second between him and ekblad.
Things get pretty wide open after that it seems. i hope the flames get that 2nd pick.

This. Toss in the fact that the hockey Gods haven't but us a break since 1989 and I have no doubt we will be picking outside of the top 5 again. It sucks, but that is the reality the Flames live season after season.

It's the Montreal Forum curse. People think we broke it in 2004, but really it just strung us along so it would hurt more.

Draftbuzz? It isn't a good thing to not have heard of a scouting service.
Perlini has been rising on most lists and seems to have closed the gap to the Dal Colle/Draisaitl territory. Ritchie should be in that mix too. 4 big forwards.
Still really hoping EDM can pass us. We need to finish bottom two to ensure getting one of the top 3 prospects.

Yeah, I found it through HF. It's been consistently the worst one I've read. I mostly just included it for the laughs

Right of the bat you could see the whole Hitmen team was tired. They were on a west coast trip and played the night before in Van. Nonetheless, they clearly outmatched the terrible play of the Blazers. Overall it was a sloppy game. Still, you could see a lot of raw skill in Virtanen. He skates well, moves around the ice well. And was esp dangerous on the PK. He would pick his spots to get odd man rushes. Overall a nice game from him, without anything exceptional. You could def see though that unlike the tier of prospects above him he is at least a few years out from the NHL.
On a side note, newly acquired Adam Tambellini looked good. Although mostly because he was getting a lot of 1st line pp time and had a couple sick snipes in warm up.
|
Tambellini has looked good in the WHL, after struggling at the NCAA. I guess that is the advantage of moving to a slightly lower level of hockey from a development perspective.
Virtanen looked good in Victoria as well, did not do much on the scoresheet but you could tell he is a skilled player. Big body, skates well and has put up good numbers for a potential power forward in his draft year. If Burke moved down in the draft for some reason I would have no problem with Virtanen being taken after the 6th or 7th pick.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Demko go in the first, likely early in the second.
BC has the 4th best GA in the NCAA, but he definitely benefits from the fact that they play so much of their games at the other end of the ice.
His stats are quite a bit better than their other goalie, and he has taken over the starter job at this point. His stats are actually better than Gillies' were last year, and he's a year younger than Gillies was (and Gillies was considered a phenom putting up those numbers as an 18/19 year-old; Demko is doing it as a 17/18 year-old). The only concern would be that he has played less than half as many games as Gillies last season.
I'd be surprised if he fell to the third round.

Hate hearing this about the 10th ranked NA skater. Probably going to drop him in the draft
http://www.ottawasun.com/2014/02/14/...ame-suspension
Quote:
Top NHL draft prospect Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting was suspended eight games Friday by the Ontario Hockey League for harrassing or abusing a teammate.
The league announced the ban, believed to be the first time in OHL history that a player has been suspended for a violation of the league's Harassment and Abuse/Diversity Policy against a teammate, after investigating for more than a week, according to the Sarnia Observer. The Sting initially suspended DeAngelo after learning of the incident during a game against the Guelph Storm on Jan. 31 then turned the matter over to the league.
"The matter reviewed was that of allegations of a Sarnia Sting player violating the League's Harassment and Abuse/Diversity Policy," the league said in a statement. "Based on such review, it is the position of the League that player Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club did in fact make a most inappropriate statement to a teammate and shall be suspended for eight (8) games."
It is DeAngelo's second suspension under the policy this season but the first for comments directed at a teammate.
-It's a relief that it is officially announced and there is some closure on the situation," Sting coach Trevor Letowski told the Observer. "We fully support what the league came up with and Anthony has paid a pretty big penalty."

Unreal. No place for that in the game regardless, but how out of whack is this kid to have a smear like this come out towards his own team. Mixture of undisciplined and poor morals IMO
