Where could they possibly have found a picture of Nenshi where he isn't grimacing or looking like he just got goosed? Someone alert the Calgary Sun!

Jon Lord's recent stance on SARS made my voting experience more difficult than it should have been...

The inner city needs to be just as safe as it could be beautiful (which Evan seems to focus on and should not be his highest priority which I feel it is).

Is there any candidate willing to have a free beer and wings night on a weekly basis? That would sway my vote
The way to make the inner city safe is to increase people on the streets at night so it that sense I think Woolley is right. I wish I could vote in that race instead for being stuck in DCU land.

That was a very dumb comment by Lord.

Nenshi makes dumb comments too, but not in editorial pieces or memos. I'll give him that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Having been to Hillhurst/Sunnyside meeting where she has attended and seeing the community association meeting mintues I can tell you she isn't necessarily the most popular person in NIMBY land. Perhaps her views align with the core demographic of young renters but statistically they don't vote. Knocking down century homes (for right or for wrong) to build condo's isn't what the majority of the NIMBY's are voting for.

That said I couldn't find the actual pole data to back up my anecdotal theory...

Which is why she's likely getting my vote...better representation for us latte sippers than suburbanites!! Inner city FTW!!

Any ward 11 Guys have any insight on Maxim (good or bad) ... I am on the fence right now.
I haven't talked to Pincott or Maxim in person, however the following is my opinion:

The only thing I saw Pincott do during his last term was start a shark fin soup ban which helped the citizens of Ward 11 substantially. /sarcasm.

That being said, the are rumuors abound that Maxim is part of the developers slate. You likely have seen the yellow 20:1 signs all along 90th ave and other places. 20to1.ca leads you to a site for Wayne Frisch where he indicates another candidate in Ward 11 will spend 20x the amount he will because of corporate donations from one single industry. It is obvious he is referencing Maxim and the developers contributions to his campaign.

For this reason I cannot vote for James Maxim. If a single source is funding his whole campaign, he would likely have to answer to them when he sits on city council. I do not want my representative for Ward 11 to have to answer to a corporation, I want them to answer to the citizens of Ward 11.

Than perhaps it wasn't meant to be?

You're not doing the candidate you actually support any favours by "strategically" voting against them.

I do get it, I just don't agree with it. If you're only going to vote for the the most popular candidates why even allow more than 2 to run? Maybe the candidate you support is more popular than you think. Maybe their surprising results encourage them to run again next election and they eventually win.

That said I personally think Taylor will win and he's certainly not my first choice....

Is there more proof of that ?

I see Maxim got an A on that Fake Rating Website thingy that i will not name (to reduce website hits). That is a knock against him.

Tough one.. i do not particularly like any of them...

You've touched on some pretty serious stuff, although it is kinda tough (and mostly pointless) trying to discuss it in depth here. I'll summarize my take on it: when she likes and supports something – nothing else matters, including the opposition of her constituents; same thing on the contrary.

There have been mentions of being involved with the Manning Center and homebuilders in various articles, can google a bit.

Quote:
Wenzel went through each alderman and specifically singled out for defeat Farrell (challenged by Taylor), Pincott (challenged by Maxim), Carra (challenged by Wilkie), and Mar (challenged by Newman). Wenzel also stated that James Maxim and Kevin Taylor were “being taking care of” by the home builders. Finally, Wenzel acknowledged that the home builders had raised $1.1 million for the Manning Centre.

And the memo MarchHare references above.

Then vote for him. Why would you wanna vote for someone who couldn't find anything better to fight for than shark fin soup ban?

To James Maxim's credit, he has made his donor list public: http://www.jamesmaxim11.ca/donors/

I'm not in that ward nor following the race there, but have a look at the list and it is fairly apparent where a good chunk of change has come from.

See this is where I would get stuck. I think the urban sprawl of this city is a problem and really dislike our developers at the moment.

However, when I see a candidate go all transparent when its not mandatory, I see trust. I will usually vote for a candidate I trust to be open and transparent then I agree with. That makes me sound loopy however.

In any case, I am in Ward 8, so it really doesn't matter I guess.
