My Iphone 5 is updated to 6.02 and the wifi is still ridiculously slow. I did some tests and downloaded a 41 MB game from the App store with my Iphone 4 and then my Iphone 5. The Iphone 4 downloaded the file in 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The Iphone 5 took 29 minutes to download the same file. I tried this a few different times with the same results. I'm fairly convinced this is a hardware issue with the wifi chip that Apple is trying to sweep under the rug or contain the damage. They have been censoring posts on an apple forum where people are discussing it. Its probably not as well known because most people use LTE to download with their phone instead of wifi. Try it out with any other idevice and compare the wifi speed with the iphone 5. Theres definitely a problem. Mine is going back until perhaps the 5S comes out.

What make of router, and what flavour of 802.11 encryption?

Netgear WNDR3700, and WPA-2 encryption. I realize some people have had success changing their router security settings to WEP but I don't feel like I should have to change my security or my router to be able to use my phone, especially when it works with everything else I own including other apple products with no issues whatsoever.

WEP isn't encryption. Still sucks though. I think it had been easily hackable for about 5 or 6 years now.

I completely agree. I don't know what's going on - a lot of people are blaming WPA2, but personally I think it's something to do with MIMO - I think so far everyone complaining about the problems has a newer device (iPhone 5 or iPad mini/4) that does MIMO.
If you set your Netgear to only use 20 mhz bands (or disable wide channels, or something along those lines terminology wise), does the problem go away?

Hardware revision v1 or v2?
I have the same router, flashed with DD-WRT. Works flawlessly with my work-supplied iDevice, and all the other stuff in my house.

Sorry if been discussed:
I recently switched from Android to iphone5. Is there a way to get current weather in my status bar without jailbreaking the phone?

I don't think there's an iOS 6.1 jailbreak yet

I had a similar problem, but I couldn't get my Iphone5 to see my home network no matter what I did (it can see my work wifi though). I got it declared DOA by Rogers and they are sending out a replacement...epic pain in the ass.
Apple is feeling a bit like Honda...a once leading company that is trading on their reputation and is coasting while QC slides. Meanwhile hungry Koreans competitors gain inertia.

What do you mean status bar? Celsius Free is a weather app I use that uses push notifications to update the temperature on the app icon so you don't have to actually click into the app to see the temperature.

Looks like one small issue- it won't show negative values. So right now at -8 it just shows 8.

Looks like Apple is going to make a cheaper iphone. Which isn't a bad idea considering they are losing marketshare all over the world. But like the ipad mini won't it cannibalize sales from the regular iphone rather than steal marketshare from Android? I'm sure a similary priced android will still outspec the cheaper iphone.
While Apple has explored such a device for years, the plan is progressing and a less expensive version of its flagship device could launch later this year, one of the people said.
The cheaper phone could resemble the standard iPhone, with a different, less-expensive body, one of the people said.
One possibility under consideration is lowering the cost of the device by using a different shell made of polycarbonate plastic; in contrast, the iPhone 5 currently has an aluminum housing.
Many other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models.

You want a new but cheaper iPhone? Seems like the easiest solution is to continue selling the 4 and the 4S but instead at even larger discounted rates. Doesn't pollute the 'quality' image that Apple has while still providing a proven device.

Who the heck would want a phone that is 3.5 inches? It's not 2008.

Having just upgraded to a S3, I can certainly see the appeal of something that is easy to hold in your hand.

This is a yearly rumor from the Wall Street Journal, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it just yet. (although the WSJ is also a suspected deliberate leak target for Apple PR, so who knows really)
On the other hand, the cannibalization aspect is a non-factor at Apple - they have repeatedly said that they are perfectly willing to cannibalize sales when it's one of their own products - the iPad Mini being a prime example of a product they had to know was going to take a good sized chunk out of the Retina iPad margins.

Happens all the time.
While the iPhone is certainly smaller, it also means I can hit the buttons on it without holding my phone with 2 hands, or risk dropping it due to shifting my grip.
There is only 1 thing I do on my phone that is the least bit impacted by having a different sized screen, and that is web browsing. It isn't enough to forever steer me away from a smaller phone though.
