Dach makes sense if Montreal are basically paying us to take him, otherwise the expectations are way too high. He’s a “center” I guess, but he’s also terrible defensively and terrible at faceoffs, gets a wild amount of offensive zone starts because of that (not because he’s good offensively). People get fooled whenever he has a good handful of games in a row but he promptly goes back to being terrible and ends or injured for 30% or more of the season anyway.

He’s purely a camp dump. Negative value.

Yeah , the injury part does cut against acquiring him to fill a void. Filling a void with a void leaves ……. a void.

Honestly, there are plenty of other teams that could pursue Kadri if Montreal is not going to want to pay up. I want Hage. He and Reschny down the middle is exactly what we need.

Kadri + Andersson (50%) for Hage, 2026/2027 1st (top 3 protected), Anderson, Matheson

Flames can flip Matheson or extend him. Have a Matheson - Weegar and Bahl - Parekh pairing.

Agreed but I would say he wouldn’t be coming here to be a 1C. He’s got this year at $3.3. Seems like a salary dump from the perspective of the habs. If he comes with a sweetener (a 1st), I’d be for it.

They have Parayko, Fowler, Mailloux and Jiricek. I guess Parayko and Fowler are starting to get up there, Mailloux is still unproven and Jiricek has a ways to develop yet.

Don't know what side Fowler played in Anaheim, but Monty doesn't play him on the right side. He's been going with Parayko, Faulk and Mailloux.

Mailloux has been horrendous and a healthy scratch twice. Jiricek didn't have a good camp. Neither are ready. Their only depth option on the right is Matthew Kessel.

One of the sources I spoke with suggested 20-year-old defenseman Tom Willander – the Canucks drafted him 11th overall in 2023 – as a piece Calgary would presumably be interested in as part of a package for Kadri. I reported last week that the Flames are in the market for a (preferably young) left-shot defenseman, and touching base with a Flames source, a package centered around Willander for Kadri is a deal that would “make sense,” even though the former is right shooting.

Willander would be a nice addition to the Flames’ defensive future, which is currently highlighted by 2024 first-round pick Zayne Parekh. Parekh, 19, is the crown jewel on Calgary’s defense who has played in six games this season with no points to show for it. According to one league source, Parekh is viewed as a top power play quarterback who can play big minutes but shouldn’t be relied on for the penalty kill and defending leads late in games with heavy defensive-zone situations. Though both right-shooting, Parekh and Willander could make for a nice duo for the Flames in the long term

Seems like a lot of value for the Flames. Andersen is a pending UFA and could be flipped for a pick. Matheson is a top 4 D as well so they are giving up a pick and their top prospect to get Kadri and Andersson? Seems like a value gap the Flames would have to close.

I thought I read somewhere the Canucks are not willing to move their 26 1st. Getting Wallinder and their 27 1st would be great though

There will be a ton of teams wanting Kadri. I'd say the most desirable player on the market right now. Should be able to get a HUGE return.

If Willander is the target from Vancouver and the Flames shop Kadri around, then the return could be great. Maybe he's not a perfect fit given the flames RD prospect depth, but that quality of asset is great

I would do Kadri for Willander straight across (as opposed to 1st Round Pick + Lesser Piece which has been the structure for the Lindholm/Hanifin/Markstrom deals).

Anderson is not a pending UFA. He is 5.5m for an extra year after this season. We are taking him on so we don't have to retain on Kadri.

That's an interesting team that hasn't been talked about before, but have a lot of prospects that would be interesting. Not sure which of these guys would be on the table but Dvorsky, Carbonneau, Stennberg, Jiricek, Lindstein would all be VERY enticing.

I would also be happy with a 2027 1st as the Blues are a team that could take a sudden and surprising step back.

Local pundits and fans seem to be getting impatient with Dvorsky. Of course, that doesn't mean Army is interested in selling

We'll take Dach along with a 1st for future considerations.

Any deal with MTL requires an over pay on their part. At least I hope so.

Similar to Frost, Sillinger just strikes me as a future Flame. I wonder if there's a deal to be had there.

I love it when the Canucks go all in on their current season despite not being anywhere near the cusp of contention. The threat of Hughes leaving means they kind of have to too.

Canucks are their own amusing trainwreck.
