If the cost of a 2nd line offensive center is a D man with one year left on his deal that you're not even certain you;re going to keep past the end of his contract, I don't have an issue doing this trade. And maybe he re-signs. Duchene up the middle for this roster would be insane.

Monahan
Duchene
Backlund
Ryan

Thats a formidable 4 centers.

And As great as Brodie has been for the Flames, we have Valimaki who can come back up and move Andersson or whomever up to his spot. The D depth is insane.

A week before TDL and Brodie out last minute unexpectedly? Yeah that does seem fishy.

Whether now or at the draft, Tre would be selling high. It's a good time to do so. Maybe he wants Valimaki in the lineup and feels the young D have made Brodie expendable if the return means a player that makes their top 6 more competitive against the other top western teams.

Anthony Duclair has been a healthy scratch quite a bit in Columbus. I'd target him - would probably come relatively cheap at the deadline for some additional depth and size.

What do you expect a player like Duchene to cost? He is a point per game player and acquiring him is going to cost the Flames something significant. Furthermore, I question why the Senators would want Brodie, he is a very good player, with one year left on a fair contract, 29 year old heading into next season, and question marks surrounding his play away from Giordano. The Senators are going to be looking for young players who will be part of a rebuild in 2-3 years, I don't know if Brodie is that piece.

The players who the Senators would be more interested in, in my view, are Kylington, Andersson, and Valimaki.

If by the small chance Brodie is traded at the deadline then the Flames would definitely get a RD back in the trade. Plus Stone would only sign a contract if the Flames overpaid big time. Doesn't make sense for him to sign otherwise.

But look at his skin colour.. wouldn't be surprised if the other poster's size opinion was because of that.

I wouldn't be adverse to trading Brodie if the right deal was available but definitely not for a rental. I don't even want to trade Kylington or Dube for a rental. Maybe Czarnik and a low draft pick if that gets us anything useful.

Is Brodie a legit top pairing dman or does he rather just happen to play on the Flames top D pairing (because Gio can make all his partners better)?

Brodie plus Dube (or simular prospect) for an extended Stone. Sure. But why would Ottawa do that? There has to be some significantly better offers coming.

Brodie is a top pairing defenseman. Go back and watch his play against the Sedins in 2015, no Giordano. Brodie was our best player in that series.

Thats right. Go watch a player from four years ago lol

You can also watch Brodie over the past two years, no Giordano.

Great play for a period of time while your top guy is down is well and good, but I can't use that as evidence of overall status. Engelland was terrifically in that series. Also Ferland, Bennett, etc.

Brodie stepped up while Gio was down no doubt. And he's a top pairing defenceman IMO. But not because of that. And I don't think he is a number one guy. Or ever will be, because of his defensive play.
