The Josh Anderson talk is BONKERS. His contract is too big. He is almost 29. He is injured too often. He is not that good anymore. And they’re talking about Pelletier! I just refuse to believe it, but Treliving has been interested for some time. Yikes!
Edit: Pat says Dreger did not say MTL is asking for Pelletier, just that they’d be interested in him. Even so, yikes.

I only buy that a first was offered for Anderson if he was 50% retained or a worse contract was going back. I’d stick with Coleman for what it is worth

Dreger gets a call from his buddy in the MTL office and spins a ridiculous trade, to socialize ideas like what a player is worth. Does this nonsense ever work?

Would do a 3rd or 4th for Puljujarvi with no retention. Had solid possession numbers a season ago. Desperately needs a change of scenery.

Andersson should have the value of negative two 1st round picks.

What am I Missing about Andersson.
Arguably A better contract and more goals than Mangiapane.
He’s big. Has shown up in the playoffs.
This is bad why?

People are saying the asking price is like Pelletier and/or a 1st rounder. That is crazy.

No way would I trade Coleman for Anderson straight up. Coleman is a guy you win with and need.

I'd pay Coleman 1 million extra and add an additional year to his deal if that meant Josh Anderson was never mentioned again.

I mean, you can ask for whatever you want when you have something. Doesn’t mean anyone will pay it

I get why people are upset about the Anderson rumor. He’s aging, his numbers have declined, he’s not worth his contract, and the rumoured price to aquire him is exorbitant.
However, he’s far from the worst player in the league, and that’s why it took a heavy price to aquire him in Montreal, and why he would be expensive now. He’s a very rare combination of great speed, mixed with size and toughness- and I’m sorry to those who disagree, but those are still valuable assets, especially in the playoffs. If he can get back to being a 20-goal scorer (he had 19 last year), and still play the same style under Sutter, he could be a valuable player- especially against the Oilers.
I still wouldn’t want to pay that price, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world to have him here.

It wouldn’t be if we weren’t giving raises to Huberdeau and Weegar. Pretty much already using the allocated money from the Lucic expiration.
It just doesn’t make sense, unless we are doing some huge ass blockbuster deal with them where we’re giving some cap back.

Blowing futures on a 29 year old Josh Andersson to try and salvage this train wreck sounds like a typical Flames move going into the deadline.
Something like Pelletier and a 2nd.
Just sell, everyone not named Wolf is available (For the right price)

I think Brad can be shown the door too at this point. Likely this team won't ever be good until an ownership change. If your philosophy from the top is wrong, the org can't really be expected to improve.

This is not a rumor but more just a thought, in light of the Huberdeau news tonight.
Who says no:
Huberdeau + Kylington ($13M)
for
Miller + Garland ($12.95M)
Both Flames and Canucks move on from their big off season extensions. Canucks bank on Huberdeau and Pettersson being deadly together, and get a dman they desperately need.
Flames get two forwards that don't break the internal cap as much as Huberdeau does at $10.5M, actually kind of fixes some of the issues in the top 9.
