Maybe in the summer someone would take a chance on him without a severe throw in . In articles every team that has said they will take on additional cap space day they want to be rewarded for it .imo Mony will stay on the flames for remainder of the year and probably in the 4th line unless a bunch of injury’s occur .

This may be our best chance to move mony without having to subsidize a trade. Right or wrong, Seravalli is probably correct in that there are teams out there that feels he can regain his 30 goal form. And in scanning some of the rosters out there, there are contending teams that need assistance at C. Hope something can be done before the trade deadline as this might be our best window to get some sort of return for a player in decline.

Don’t think there is much fire in front of the increased smoke around Monahan; media guys have to drum up a player at least from every team to fill the 10h of coverage they have Monday and that’s the seemingly the biggest name that other fans will recognize. Not Pelletier or Dube.
And not talked about enough is the friendship between your star pending UFA and Monahan, especially entering the most critical part of the season with the team as a whole, on a roll. I can’t say I know where the negotiations are with JG but if they were done done we’d know. If they aren’t, dropping your very good friend and linemate would be tough to see.

Trouble is, of course, dropping his buddy is necessary to give JG the contract he wants.

Scoring Winger

Monahan is a great chance pickup for a team with cap space and a need for a top 9 center.
His points most likely be higher if played top 9 for all games. Right now he's just outside 180 top 6 players for all teams. And that's on the 4th line plus a cold streak last 15 games. Plus next year his last year on his contract.
A team like Boston needs some center depth. Has room. Can move out a winger.
Debrusk for Monahan makes too much sense.

That would be an absolute steal for the Flames, I'm sure they would have to add

Someone had this on hf and from the outside it could work for both. However on the flames side your giving up Center depth so that might hold them back on this deal.

They always ramp up the obvious cap problem players. Half of their job is understanding team make up and predicting movement before anyone else.

Why? Debrusk is a pure rental, has requested a trade, and Boston isn’t extending him. In return they get a centre to tide them over since they’re thin at centre, and they can make the same moves in the off season with Monahan that the Flames are looking at. The Bruins are further from contention than the Flames - they are just running out some contracts at this point.

I can see the “messing with chemistry in room” chatter being a thing for this year, but Johnny is not an idiot. He has to know that Mony won’t be on this team long term . And when I say long term the odds of him being on the teamnext year are slim .

Chance for someone to pickup Myers, the one that got away from the Flames. Kind of surprised he is on waivers and not trade bait. He looked good in Philly.

I remember when New Era was pumping up the package of Myers, Frost, and a 1st for Gaudreu as a great deal for the Flames.

Monahan's contract has negative value with another year left.

Meh, it can be retained. And the Bruins are a little desperate - they’re slipping.

Flames can't be retaining...that is the whole point of moving Monahan they need all that cap space

I can’t believe Myers is on waivers! If we were to pick him up, Sutter would do wonders with him ala Zadorov/Gudbranson. Maybe he could be our depth defenseman.
Edit: Bit too expensive….

Monahan only has negative value if he were being traded to the CP Flames.

The Ristolainen trade and then signing by Philly means some GM might take a gamble

No, I’m saying the Bruins keep him this year, then move him retained for something in the off season. They can afford it more easily. They only have one big contract in Macavoy, Bergeron will likely re-sign a cheap retirement deal while the team treads water for a season or two.

The Bruins are like 13-2 in their last 15.
