If you get a good enough offer, it doesn't really matter what Lindholm wants.
I think that if certain dominoes fall, Lindholm is gone either way. For example, if Lundell is actually the return on a Hanafin trade, that's a future Lindholm player on the roster, and I could see Lindholm being shipped out for a future Hanafin.
I don't think LA is really an option, although they have the pieces to trade if they wanted. Could you imagine Kopitar/Danault/Lindholm as the best team of 200ft centres ever assembled?

Conroy: Hey Lindy, you want 8x$9.5M to be the captain?
Lindholm: Lemme think it over.
Conroy: Of course, take all the time you need.
*hangs up*
Conroy: Enjoy Buffalo, mother####er.
I don’t know how you could keep an offer like that on the table for anyone who didn’t immediately say “yes”.

Why the **** is this organization hanging their entire future on whether a low-end 1C decides whether or not being massively overpaid until he's 38 is worth enduring Calgary.
Get him the hell out of here at this point.

I’m sure the only thing keeping Lindholm remotely interested in staying is that his pal Markstrom came here. Maybe to play with him? That’s speculation but it’s certainly plausible.
If Lindholm leaves he’s kind of leaving Markstrom high and dry.

Backlund's instagram feed appears to have him in Nashville. Why would he be there, when his wife and kids are in Sweden?

The draft. Presumably some kind of leadership thing

Probably because they are going to extend him and he will be on the podium when they make their first pick.

I would think the Award Ceremony. Finalist for King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
Award show is at Bridgestone Arena on June 26.

I’m assuming the captaincy has been Bandied about, as it’s pretty much the only thing besides money Conroy has to offer.

I don’t think this is quite as absolute as you’re making it out to be.

So in other words, you’re just making things up. Sounds rational.
Everything I’ve heard/read is the offer is close to Horvat and no one has mentioned captaincy.

I think they're going the Leafs direction and trying the all offence approach. Or they could just be loading up on both offensive D, and will have a two way D move coming later. Either way, probably a step in the right direction.

This is indeed quite aggravating. There are too many players on the way out to make this work. To even bother going down the route of keeping yet another soon to be 30 year old to a long term deal is just pure stupidity. I really hope Conroy is working the phones hard and keeping his cards close, because if his intentions are pure and wants to give him the choice it's terrible.

Maybe, maybe not. The information we've been given up to this point sure makes it sound like the Flames won't do anything until they know whether they've been given the privilege of adding another albatross to their pile of overpaid secondary players on the wrong side of 30.
It reeks of desperation. Like the organization has resigned itself to never being able to acquire a cheaper, younger alternative to a guy who is already not a difference maker, and will only get worse over time.
And the only reason I can think of for why that might be is because ownership has once again foolishly decided that every year should be a 'try to sneak in and see what happens' year, and has no foresight for how this affects the team beyond the next 2-3 seasons.

Of course I’m making #### up. Do I look like someone with sources?
No one has given an answer to “why does Lindholm H
want to stay here?” That isn’t money.
He can get an exorbitant sum of money at any moment he chooses in the next 12 months.
The only thing a Calgary can conceivably offer is the captaincy.
I have no idea if Elias values that role, and the prestige that comes with it.
But they haven’t had a captain for two years and Conroy wants to have one this year.
If that isn’t something that carries weight with 28, we are back to only being able to offer him a nominal amount more than anyone else.
And really, if they’re offering $8.5x8, that’s as good as saying he’s gone. Everyone in a position to do so would happily give Lindholm $8.5 million a year.

Let those other teams do it, I say. The Flames should be the last team to be paying that much for a retirement contract when Kadri, Huberdeau, Coleman, Weegar, and Markstrom are already handcuffing the team with unmoveable deals until they can no longer play (or beyond).
There is no universe in which a core including those players plus Lindholm wins a Stanley Cup, or even comes close, for at least the next 7 years. It's damning the Flames to a future of aimlessness. It's so exhausting.
