Spiralling out of control? Nah, it's hockey, it is an entertaining game, at a certain point the only thing that spirals out of control is someone's need to be right and convince other people that their subjective opinion about a player is the only real one.
For every group of people that love or hate a player on the home team, from Gaudreau to Bennett, there is bound to be at least one person who feel the opposite way. Who is right? Nobody cares.
Thread after thread of the same conversations, so much time repeating the same damn thing in some weird attempt to make THIS the one that really convinces people who don't care to be convinced, because they see it differently, and they're happy with that.. because it's hockey... and who really cares.
All I'm saying is y'all need jesus.

I'll call it whatever I want. That's the point of a message board. Opinions. And yes there is a myth of Sam Bennett for a few posters. Why does that get under your skin that we are discussing it?
Well clearly some people care, some people don't. How could you possibly know who cares and how much? Not sure why you care so much that people like discussing hockey. What you call psychoanalyzing, the rest of us call hockey talk.
Maybe stop taking it so personally and it won't bother you as much. Speaking of psychoanalyzing, you appear to need to psychoanalyze why people hold their opinions and can't just discuss the player.
But you do you and if psychoanalyzing posters instead of talking hockey is your bag, then go for it. Also, if Jesus helps, I'm all for that too.
After all, Jesus Saves.

I wonder if the source is Bennett.

I would love to know what Eric Francis thinks is fascinating. Guys get scratched all the time. Why is he so amazed by this move?

between this and Ward needing to defend his decision to play Bennett at wing with "he asked to [not play with Nordstrom and Lucic]", sounds like the coach is being petulant about Bennett wanting out. Will he throw a stick into the stands next?

Wouldn’t have been the first person I’d sit, but if you gave Rinaldo Bennett’s jersey and a stick on Lanny moustache I may not notice the difference.

I'm guessing Bennett was baffled by Leivo getting PP time (as literally any person with two eyes should be) and said so to Ward and now got benched.

That was just a snapshot. Do a bit of research on the player and how often he hits the dog house.

I'm guessing he asked to be traded and will be in the next week or two

If that's the case, I can't wait until Sam is gone. He should be worrying about his own lacklustre performance, not trying to outcoach the coach.
That being said, that's a preposterous guess.

But at some point - the inability to translate those underlying metrics into actual production matters.

Flames were a low scoring team. Pretty much every forward on the team had numbers below where they should have been, based on the ice-time, line-mates, and opportunities presented.
He was 10th on the team in pts among forwards, only because Lucic got PP time and 8 PPPs.

Wut? Petulant?
Ward doesn't need to defend anything, other than to do what he thinks is best for the team.
