My point has been that NHL goalies tend to play a maximum of 85-90 games in a season, and Talbot played 86.
Point taken, but regardless of his save % or GAA, Talbot was a beast in that Anaheim series. Fatigue didn't look like a factor at all in his game and he was the only reason why that series went 7 games.

I like you, expected him to burn out after his workload this year, simply didn't happen. Which is surprising considering playing behind the Oilers meant he would see more rubber throughout the season.

If he can string 2 seasons together like this past year I would consider him one of the best in the game.

Remarkable season and playoffs by him. The only oiler ill give any credit to.

*sigh*

You are not getting it. Even IF he does string another two seasons together like this year and he does become one of the best in the game, it won't change the fact that he is likely not capable of playing much more than 85-90 games at the same level. No goalie can realistically be expected to shoulder that sort of workload and succeed. THAT IS THE POINT.

No I get it completely. The Oilers will probably prioritize acquiring a solid backup to ease the work load for him.

My statement of him becoming elite was more directed at how he performed this past season rather than the number of games he played, which I know was crazy high. I believe he has all the tools to become an elite goalie, remains to be seen though.

Fully agree it is unheard of and very difficult to duplicate the season he had considering the extraordinary amount games he played.

A great song for Oiler fans to listen to now that they are ousted from the playoffs.
