Epic autocorrect fail.
Monahan looked the spitting image of Nieuwy in those retro jerseys. Must be something to do with the lettering on the back, but he looked like a beast.

Those jerseys MUST become the Flames primary jerseys. Come on Ken King. Sort it out!

have to be excited about his goal last night.
his last three have been less "mucky" and more power moves or hands.

He seems to have an amazing eye for picking the 5-hole. His physical game seems to be developing... It's hard to not be excited about this player.

He was also trying some creative passes the last couple of games. Once those start connecting, his assists numbers should start going up.

its almost like his injury and then the olympic break gave him time to do some work in the gym, and maybe watch the game from a different angle
Way less careful, more of an impact guy now.

Really impressed with how often he wins battles along the boards. Just like he did against 2 islanders last night on his goal. To be winning battles like that as often as he does at both ends of the rink is really exciting cause he'll only get better at it as he gets bigger, stronger, more confident, and more experienced.
I find that ability to win those kind of battles is what tends to separate the top dominating players in this league from guys who are just skilled and put up points. I'm talking about how guys like getzlaf, perry, Tavares, Crosby, malkin, Lucic, Krejci, iginla, thorton, benn, toews, Bergeron, zetterberg, datsyuk, and giroux can go into a corner against any other guy and will likely win those board battles. That's how teams dominate games with puck possession cause they have guys like that.

On the other hand, I think guys like Ovechkin, seguinn, hall, eberle, Spezza, kovalchuk, P. Kane, and stamkos are all highly skilled players who put up points but they don't seem to dominate puck possession/cycle game like the other guys do by winning those one-on-one board battles. They are all skilled and top players in the league but I think it's very rare to have a young player like Monahan who is showing signs of being a guy that has the strength and hockey IQ to win board battles like that. It's very exciting and shows why he was drafted so high despite not having many highlight real goals in junior. When you watch how complete his game is and how focused he is on making it even better, you see how special of a player he is.

Lately I have found myself rewinding highlights of his goals to try and figure out how the puck actually went in. Unreal how composed and decisive he is in front of the net, with a crazy fast release. As the season goes on opposing goalies and d havent been able to track this guy and by the time they figure out where he is the puck is in the net.
 Aaaaand hes a rookie

His goals always look lucky until you watch them in slow motion

With all the talk of highlights, if anyone is looking to brush up on earlier in the season, I highly recommend the Montreal at Calgary game from October 9th. Monahan had a two point night with some very slick goals. http://flames.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/recap?id=2013020046
This game is still tied with the nucks brawl as my favorite of the season

It's almost bizarre to see people saying he doesn't have moves. In close the guy is a total beast. No panic or desperation in any of his movement, pure calm. What he does in close with players around him is pretty impressive.

It is, but it never looks intentional in real time. Might just be my eyes, but until I watched the slow motion I thought he just shoveled it in. When I saw the little move like always I'm so impressed

Yeah he's wearing his 23. Foreshadowing?? Weird.

I can't see that being an error. Maybe an 'error' though.

Looks fantastic on him already.
