^^^Blah, so damn boring. I can just get a normal sweater with the team's colour and paste some letters across the front and get the same thing.

Maybe, while not straight across, but not quite diagonal either, it looks closer to this?
More of a script font than a duller, cheaper, more generic font like the Women's team is cobbling together.

I would never propose to change the main logo, never. The topic is about third jersey. Anyway, here's the updated version with the white flaming C outlined in black and yellow.

Why does this team hate its' fans so much? A wordmark? WTF?
This has a high probability of being hideous. And- for sure- worse than the retro as an alternate.

You act like the discerning population of the fan base is the majority. As much as a wordmark might come off as "hate" to you, the very vast population of jersey buying fans are going to eat it up.
I for one think it's very possible it turns out alright, but we'll see. Either way, the jersey connoisseurs on CP are, unfortunately, not representative of the majority fan base.

I think CP actually represents an excellent cross section of the fanbase opinion. I don't think it's just some small subset of like 6 people with an opinion. I think it's more of a larger community than people give credit, with a larger degree of credibility than people give credit. I bet much of the Flames and their management read this site to get a good feel for the fans' opinions. It is great as a marketing tool, really. I just think they were like screw it, it's our team let's do what we want.
If you go back in this thread, find one or two concepts that fans have made that get a ridiculous amount of "thanks", I bet those concepts would outsell this potential oncoming disaster.

And I am suspecting CP has at most, a thousand or so actual season ticket equivalent holders? A cross section, possibly of hardcore fans, but I am guessing 85%+ of Flames season ticket holders have never heard or visited CalgaryPuck, let alone fans that don't come to the internet for this type of discussion.
As for the jersey, the third jersey, with "Calgary" on it, has nothing to do with the concepts presented, most of which are re-doing the current home and away.
This new alternate jersey, as all are, are strictly marketing, and this will undoubtedly be revealed as a tribute/recognition to the City of Calgary and be marketed as such...an worn the 6-8 times per year mandated by the league.
If I were to guess, in the next 2-3 years, the Flames primary uniforms will be re-done with the retro feel we've seen in some of these concepts, making the retro they've used as the alternate last three years, redundant.

Rumor: Flames to Have New 3rd Jersey Next Year

I'm not at all saying that CP isn't important or credible, I'm saying the opposite. This is a place to get a feeling on the hardcore fans, or at very least, the passionate Internet savvy fans who enjoy the conversation. The dome fits what, around 18000? I would guess that in any given month, no more than 500 different people post on the Fire on Ice forum. The fact of the matter is, the majority of the fan base, and probably more than 12000 of the people who pack the dome every night, are casual fans who catch a game or two, enjoy the experience, or just follow along with the big news. That's not a mark against the fan base, it's just a numbers game.
Things we discuss here, like the piping on the jerseys, the flags, the black used in the jerseys, things that we are over critical on aren't representative of the fan base, but of the more serious fan base, which is a much smaller section. I can absolutely promise that if you polled 1000 random people at the flames game, and say "What do you think about the piping on the current jersey?" Or "Do you like having black on the jersey?" most answers you get are going to be "What" or "Sure" and "Yeah!".
There is something to be said for appeasing the more hardcore fans amongst the group that follow the team closely, but third jerseys are strictly a money maker, and in no way would a slight redesign of the retros outsell a brand new concept with a wordmark. Absolutely no way. Hardcore fans would like it, but casual fans aren't going to care about the difference.

If there is a word mark on it, I'm not buying it. Terrible.
I'd like to see a new shoulder patch more than anything. I dig the alternate one shown above. I can't stand the Alberta flag on the shoulder. Blue on red sucks.

I for one couldn't care less what kinda jersey they bring out should it be now or in the future, I will be more than happy to part with my money to buy it. Surely our love for our team should be based on a bit more than what kinda jerseys the team wears.
