You'd think they would purposely avoid hosting the Flames first. I know, as a Flames fan, I would never ever let any Oiler fan live down the fact that the Flames had the first win in the new arena.
Just because they're fun to bother.

I actually think American Airlines Center is one of the arenas with a more unique design (compared to others), looking like an airplane hangar.

I really love that design. Then again I love the look of brick and/or glass and much prefer it to buildings that look like they are from the future or look like some prototype.
I am not a fan of the big arena in Sochi either.

Like a jersey-repelling force field around the rink! How novel!

Maybe similar in Texas.
NHL arena's on the other hand have a wide variety of looks. These are the 5 newest NHL arenas (I included Brooklyn since we know the Isles are moving there.
Brooklyn
Pittsburgh
New Jersey
Winnipeg
Phoenix

Healy says on HNiC that Lowe was really impressed with the LED lightning on the roof of the Bolshoy arena in Sochi and got a bunch of information on it and will look at adding it to the Edmonton arena.

If they are going to be like Sochi and not post the score when the home team is losing, it would be a pretty big waste of money I would think

Two page spread in the Edmonton Journal today on the new Edmonton arena. Lots of details and drawings. Looks like a seriously nice building. I like the idea of a section on top of the first set of corporate suites that has curved tables and stools for four in what they're describing as a sports bar arrangement. That'd be cool.

You will see all the text and looks like about half of the drawings in the Insight (Saturday) section of the mobile version.
