Vladimir Sobotka is rumored to be coming back to the NHL next season, and the Blues hold his rights IIRC.
He'd be a solid pick up. Good two way center who is absolutely killer at face offs. He'd be an ideal 3rd line center behind Monahan and Bennett, would probably be a tad cheaper than Backlund, and then you could seriously consider trading Backlund to fill a different need.

Just a note Doug Armstrong could be scouting for the World Cup as he is Canada's GM.
He could be watching Brodie for the team. Initial rosters have to be announced on March 2.

What if... And I mean what if...
Stl offered us something like Shatts, Fabbri and a 1st for Brodie.
Would you take it?

So you're saying he's going to be traded to the Islanders?

Well you'd have to consider it from a value standpoint. Id be concerned about disrupting chemistry on our blue line, and selling on brodie who seems to just keep getting better
I hope stl doesn't offer that.

You don't trade a future Norris winning defenseman.

It's pretty far fetched, but I think you have to consider it.
I don't think it disrupts our D that much, I mean it's not like we are a top 10 GA team.
It's not like Shatts isn't offensively gifted also and can eat a ton of minutes too. Not quite at the Brodie level but is still a great player.
To add a Fabbri who is showing he is a force of skill and another pick in the first round?
I love Brodie as much as everyone else and he is no doubt the Flames best player right now.
But something like this is not something you just hang up the phone on..

The problem is that Shattenkirk is UFA after next year and you'd have no guarantee he'd re-sign. STL first rounders aren't very high either. I just don't see the value as being equal. Doesn't even come close to tempting me in the end.
Brodie is locked up long term on a great contract and is just entering his prime. On the verge of being a top 10 defensemen in this league. You don't trade players like that unless its a crazy overpayment. And this proposal is far from a crazy overpayment.
Brodie, Gaudreau and Bennett are as close to untouchable as it gets on the Flames IMO.

Very true.
The reason I mention it is every GM who calls BT, has to thinking about trying to pry Brodie away.
I'm just trying to imagine the package a GM would throw at BT and what it would take for him to say yes.
I'm not trying to imply we should trade him by any means.
