Any specific reason as to why the Oilers are moving on from Kane? Is he misbehaving again, is there a personality conflict with the team, or are they just trying to free up cap space to acquire a goalie?

Most likely the latter. Apparently Kane wants to come back before the playoffs because he wants to get up to speed before they start, but the Oilers can’t fit his salary under the cap if he does come back before the season ends. So they either have to trade him or make room somewhere else. But if they don’t trade him, they also won’t have any room to add anyone at the deadline without moving salary out.

I wouldn’t be opposed to taking him on for the cost of the Oilers 2027 1st round pick. That could be a good one. He could potentially be turned into an asset at next year trade deadline to get a good return with retention
|
The Oilers have been trying to trade Kane for over a year now. He wore out his welcome in the locker room as he always does.

The league should be having their doctor look at him to see if he is physically able to return. If he is then they should have to activate him off LTIR. If they can't afford to they need to make room now or suffer penalties.

Looks like Riley Smiths time with the rangers is up.
He’s going to be traded shortly.

100%. But that would require the league to actually hold someone accountable for something for the first time in a long time lol

Guaranteed he will be traded to a capped out team for the sole purpose of miraculously recovering just in time for the playoffs. He could probably get through a playoff run without poisoning the locker room.

He sure didn't pan out there. Don't think he's going to get them anything in return, probably see more of a depth for depth move.

I would definitely do Kane with a 2027 1st... as long as Flames can get Dustin Byfuglien to agree to sign here for however long the Flames are stuck with Kane. Otherwise the Oilers would have to keep adding firsts to make it more palatable.

Sharangovich scratched this afternoon for the flames. Might just be sending a message to the room, but a few days ahead of the trade deadline, the question does arise if there are talks ongoing

I would have to think it’s protecting him. He is the roster player that makes the most sense to move.

Or the injury is still an issue and he aggravated it yesterday.

Or after 7 periods without a goal, they are sending a message and benching him since he's done absolutely nothing this year.

I really hope it’s for a potential deal, this team is nowhere close to anything but a continued “retool”. The last 3 games of this road trip show exactly where the Flames are in the process.

He's probably nursing an injury. I can't imagine there are many teams interested in taking on his contract. Definitely not going to get a lot in return for him.

Haven't scored a goal in over 7 periods and out shot 12-1 in the 1st.
Team is really making a case for Conroy to do a brutal tear down here at the TDL if possible.

I wonder if Florida still adds with Tkachuk on LTIR until the playoffs. They could still boost their D core, Anderson would be a fit. Or someone like Pospisil for forward depth.
