Liberals accuse Conservatives of playing politics with Ukraine after caucus rejects trade deal
Conservatives voted against updated Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement because it includes carbon pricing
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/lib...deal-1.7036693
The Liberal government accused Conservatives on Wednesday of abandoning Ukraine by voting overwhelmingly against an updated free trade deal that promotes carbon pricing.
Most of the Conservative caucus voted nay on the deal in the House of Commons at second reading Tuesday, triggering a chorus of heckling from the government benches.
Poilievre defended his party's decision, saying that while the Conservatives support free trade with Ukraine, they can't back any deal that involves a price on carbon.
The updated Canada-Ukraine free trade deal commits both countries to promoting carbon pricing and measures to mitigate carbon leakage risks.
Poilievre said Wednesday "I really think it speaks to how pathologically obsessed Trudeau is with the carbon tax that he, while the knife is at the throat of Ukrainians, would use that to impose his carbon tax ideology on those poor people," Poilievre said Wednesday.
"The last thing they need is a carbon tax when they're trying to rebuild from war — from this illegal invasion by Russia."
The deal does not impose a carbon tax.
Ukraine already signed onto carbon pricing, which it needs in order to one day become a member of the European Union and avoid tariffs.
Bill C-57, an Act to Implement the 2023 Free Trade Agreement between Canada and Ukraine, is now headed to a committee for study after passing the Commons by a vote of 205 to 109 with support from the NDP, Greens, Bloc Québécois and the governing Liberals.
There go the conservatives again. No matter what the truth is, they flag wave around the word carbon and automatically add the word tax to it. goddamn cons.

Yes, just "actually talking to truckers and listening to concerns." Certainly not making a political/ideological statement with crap like this.

It's also another example of PP trying to be Trump/GOP-lite.

In early 2020, the Canada Revenue Agency came to believe it had made a $63-million mistake.
The sum, the agency concluded, had been paid out in "illegitimate" tax refunds as part of what it now alleges was a "sham designed to deceive."
Iris Technologies, a Markham, Ont.-based company, had increased its sales from $27 million to $800 million in two years, according to CRA records. Buying and then exporting bulk internet telephone minutes had put the firm in a position to claim more than $120 million in tax refunds.

The CRA now says it "curtailed" an audit of Iris because of "pressure" from the telecom firm, eventually releasing the $63 million claimed by Iris between July 2018 and August 2019.
But when Iris began to claim an additional $86 million in tax refunds in September 2019, the CRA refused to pay and reopened the file.

You knew there was a problem...but you gave them the money anyways.

If we can't trust CTV and the Canadian Press, why should we be so trigger happy to defund the CBC? Private media clearly isn't up to the task.

We can only trust True North, The Western Standard and Rebel Media to give us the TRUTH behind the MSM LIES.

So the Fifth Estate documentary about the CRA being defrauded was laughable.
Credit to the CBC and their reporters, they went after them, but the CRA are just a shambles of an organization.
The CRA needs to be burnt to the ground, the Earth salted, and the entire thing rebuilt from the ground up.

I think its pretty clear that the Liberals new communication director for the PMO office is on the job.
In committee when they asked Freeland about debt to GDP and other financial issues she went an a ramble about the Ukraine vote and magma. In the house every question asked to a Liberal got a ramble about Magma.
After the shootings in Winnipeg today Ken Hardie posted this. I think its pretty clear what the Liberal comm strategy is going to be.

That Trudeau and his people can't just answer a question during question period has always bugged me. PP does it now too. I'm not sure why most of these people get paid.

That’s every government forever, since the dawn of time. Question period is purely grandstanding. Everyone knows what the questions are going to be and everyone knows that the answers aren’t forthcoming. If the CPC comes into power after the next election, they’ll do the same thing and you’ll hear the same complaints from the other side.
