Gass has apologized and Black says he'll tour again with Tenacious D in he future once the political stuff has calmed down.
That can't be it.

That's most assuredly it. To instantly turn on your lifelong friend and cocreator to save your individual income makes you a scumbag of the highest order. Your tolerance for loyalty and honour, or lack thereof, may vary.

Yeah, so you can probably give that a rest.

Protecting your brand and financial interests as an artist isn't particular to Jack Black, although doing it in the face of an off-colour joke referencing the assassination attempt of a Presidential candidate is. They plan to tour again, and by all accounts they still remain friends.

If anyone is to blame, it's Kyle Gass.

I don't know about that. Regardless of what you think of Trump it's not really a good look to say what Gas said. I don't like Trudeau but I sure as hell wouldn't be wishing harm to him.

Like I said, your tolerance may very. In a crisis people show you who they are and he's a weasel. Does make some funny faces though.

You should probably quit while you're ahead here.

I also sure as hell wouldnt go on stage and advocate for it to several thousand people.

I think its overblown, Gass and Black have friends forever, he's probably just trying to let the heat die down on that one.

I suppose Ron McLean should have backed up Don Cherry's bigotry.

A true friend would have.

Although, to be honest, it was the surrounding cameo/cast that had the funniest parts. Hank Azaria as Abraham is a scene stealer.

LOL, as a gentile married to a jew, these scenes ####ing kill me.

I've liked him in a few things, I think he picks his roles fairly well.

Donnie Darko (obviously), The Covenant he was good, despite his co-star being much, much better, Nightcrawler and hell, I even enjoyed him in the Roadhouse re-make.

But his roles that he take are, as you noted, very subdued and very 'saltine' as you say.

Inspired by a recent WatchMojo list (top 30 90s movies of all time), give me 5 films from the 90s that everyone needs to see once:

The Matrix
Jurassic Park
Silence of the Lambs
Shawshank Redemption
Scream

Well 4 of those are absolute no-brainers.

Scream saved the horror genre in the mid 90s, it's influence can still be felt today.

I’d change out Scream with Sixth Sense or T2. Maybe Blair Witch because are such icons of the 90s.

I'd like to point out my 5 movies in my list are not necessarily the 5 best, just 5 films to get the ball rolling. There are 100's of films from the 90s that everyone needs to see once.

How much of it is personal profit vs not wanting to be on stage and tour with a guy that's probably going to the target of a lot of ire and potential backlash.

Personally if I was in a band and my band member was getting death threats for something he said...I wouldn't want to be on stage with him either and it would have nothing to do with financial impact to me but more of a "staying alive" impact.

To be fair to Black, he was in Australia, and the Prime Minister was losing his ####. Live footage of the Australian PM:

Well it was actually the former PM:

Either way, international incidents in Australia are a bad idea.

There was a second Trump assassination attempt, after the Tenacious D comments. People are F-ing crazy right now.

Jack Black hired security guards for the rest of his time in Sydney:

https://www.themirror.com/entertainm...service-596823

Real or not, he believed his safety was at issue. Jack Black, who is by far the more famous of the two, probably got pummeled with threats from right wing trolls and got spooked.

We each have our own tolerance for safety, and celebrities already live in a non-safe world. I would think less of Black if he permanently abandons Tenacious D after this though.

Absolutely, I rewatch it at least once a year and always forget how good it is.
