Why would you need to choose though.
Tanev will be 35 turning 36 at the expiry of his deal in 2 years. He probably doesn't need a contract.
We have very few d-men prospects coming up the pipeline.
If you're not planning to re-build then Andersson and Weegar are the longer term core of this defense.
Andersson: 3 x $4.55M
Weegar: 8 x $6.25M
And really both of them for a combined $10.8M for the next three seasons after this one is great value.
If you can extend Hanifin for around the same as Weegar then that would be fine.
Even if Hanifin is $7M then $18M for Weegar, Hanifin, and Andersson is great value under what will likely be close to a $90M cap by then.
Quote:
I don't agree with trading Weegar, but he is relatively small and not a Sutter player.

How is Weegar not a Sutter player?
Second on the team in hits to only Zadorov (103 vs 101)
Stout defensively. Erases zone entries, strong first pass.
Leads the team in CF%, Fenwick For%, Shots For%, and is second in xGF%.
Issue being he's had some terrible on ice luck with a .899 save percentage, and 6.74 shooting percentage (similar to Tanev who has also been just as unlucky).
