watched most of the GG noms, and Emilia Perez is definitely the best in this year's cycle. Conclave is forgettable, The Substance went a bit too crazy, felt like an over the top Black Mirror episode. I'm also unsure how they managed to get it into a Musical or Comedy category.
Gladiator 2 was okay, nothing special.
Only thing left to see if The Brutalist. If anyone knows where it's playing, please share.
I loved The Substance. From beginning to end it's a roller coaster ride of "WTF!" and "I can't believe they went there". Satirical flicks like this aren't new but the conviction to leave no stone unturned and push the boundaries should be rewarded and I'm glad that it's received the attention that it deserves.

"How Did This Get Made" covered the 2019 Cats movie and I had to get a look at this abomination. I usually power through almost everything, even if I have to multitask, etc. I only made it 20 mins into this, firmly on my worst movies of all time list. I love it when something is far worse than you expected.

I've been to the last two "Mystery Movie Monday's". Kind of a cool idea, as they show advance mystery screenings of movies that have yet to see theatres. Only $5 as well, and makes for an interesting gamble.
Last week was September 5th. A unique take on the 1972 hostage crisis in the 1972 Munich Games. It was interesting to get a glimpse with how the media handled the unfolding events. Some excellent performances as well. They said this was the first time audiences were shown the consequences of terrorism on live television. A few people walked out of the screening, and I read others are boycotting the movie. I don't think you should bring kids to a mystery movie screening. I feel bad for theatre employees who have to deal with all these people who surely asked for refunds.
This week was The Fire Inside, another Olympics movie about Claressa Shields woh won back to back gold medals in boxing. It was also quite good. I liked how it wasn't a typical sports movie that crescendos with her victory at the games. The best part of the movie is when it showed what happened to her after her first win. That Shields had to fight battles and overcome obversity at all times. The movie brings up questions on how different female boxers are treated compared to other athletes. There were more great performances, in particular Brian Tyree Henry as her coach. I believe it has some award hype, and has a 96% rating on RT, so I'm sure many would enjoy it. Although again a mother and her 5-6 kids attended the movie. They made lots of noise and left after 15 minutes... again it's probably best not to bring kids to these mystery screenings, as based on past showings usually they're meant for adults.
Watched two new Christmas movies this weekend. Red One and Dear Santa.
Red One was hard to keep engaged, too much CGI and trying hard to be an action Christmas movie. Was just meh.
Dear Santa was better. I like Jack Black and am likely biased, but it at least had some originality to it.
Neither were all time greats by any stretch but comparing the two, Dear Santa is better for sure.
Oddly enough, we watched the same two movies and my opinion is essentially the same as yours.
Red One tried too hard but for me, Dear Santa just sold me, again...Jack Black is my spirit animal...but him and that kid? They sold me.
Its a fun movie.
Red One was...just okay. I think they tried to sell it on the casting? I did like the attempt at engaging with Christmas Mythology but it was too shallow to be really interesting.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Skip a Jack Black Christmas film?? What kind of a MONSTER are you?!?!?
Of course Jack Black was great, as usual, but it was weird. It had kids’ movie vibes but it was a little dirty. I would have liked it a lot more if it went more PG-13 or even R.

"Kid...are you high?" Still makes me laugh! That and the cyclist.
I got laughs out of it! Thats all I wanted.

I firmly believe in the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse when it comes to bad movies. Jack Black, The Rock, Gal Gadot, Kevin Hart, and you can throw Jason Momoa in there. If any of them make a new movie it's bound to be terrible. May God have mercy on your soul if it's something like Red Notice where two of them appear.
I honestly don't know how the Jumanji series isn't terrible with three of them involved.

Yeah, that is a pack of movie-ruiners right there. And the first Jumanji with the Rock, Kevin Hart and Jack Black was awesome AF, so who knows.

Central Intelligence was great.
