With the 272nd pick in the CP Movie Draft, StrayBullet proudly selects, Rocky IV, starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky IV will fulfill the Sports criteria.
Bill Simmons - The Sports Guy says it all in this article. So ridiculous it's perfect.
Really? I kinda thought I might get ribbed a bit for picking that one! I'm glad someone else likes it as much as I do!
I love Young Guns... I just never once thought you would get it with your two picks. I was convinced I had it in the bag!! ResAlien grabbed my Animation film, Ninja Scroll too. I've needed to re-assess my picks. I have no idea what I'm gonna do for Western - I know there's tons of westerns still out there, but Young Guns was it and you ######ed me!!! hahahaha... I'll give you $20 bucks for it.

IJAFW is extremely pleased to be able to select in the 11th round all of the way from Dublin, Ireland representing our Musical pick..... yes.....yes.....yes it's:
The Commitments (1991)
I love this movie. It has fantastic 'soul' music and features a remarkable vocal performance from Andrew Strong who was only 16 at the time. You cannot help but be impressed by his vocals. It's a very funny movie too.
In the Fantasy category, Team Clint Eastwood selects Groundhog Day (1993).
Don't have much time to write this up right now. Roger Ebert has added Groundhog Day to his Great Movies list, and here is an excerpt from the article he wrote that I think perfectly sums up the quality Bill Murray brings to his roles that make him such an effective actor, especially in this role:
"The Murray persona has become familiar without becoming tiring: The world is too much with him, he is a little smarter than everyone else, he has a detached melancholy, he is deeply suspicious of joy, he sees sincerity as a weapon that can be used against him, and yet he conceals emotional needs. He is Hamlet in a sitcom world. "Lost in Translation," another film that works because Bill Murray is in it, captures these qualities. So does "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," which doesn't work because Murray's character has nothing to push against in a world that is as detached as he is."
I love this movie, for its bittersweet comedy and thoughtful story, the touching romance that develops between Murray and Andie MacDowell, and most of all for taking a fantasical concept and making it real.
From the Draft Workshop thread, it said that Canadian movies could count towards the foreign category, and I don't' watch many foreign movies so I wanted to pick a movie I've actually seen, but if you guys disagree, I'll move this choice to my Sports selection or Wild card spot. With the 275th pick, Team MissTeeks selects in the Foreign category, from Canada, Men With Brooms!
Who said a movie about curling had to be boring! This is a pretty good movie for a Canadian movie, I really enjoy it. But then I also have a deep love of Paul Gross from watching Due South when it was on. This movie is about a small town curling team who come back together after 10 years when their old coach dies. It brings these guys back after they haven’t spoken to each other after their Captain, Paul Gross, cheated in their last game by not calling a burned rock during the Golden Broom curling tournament. It really doesn't get more Canadian than this movie, with curling, beavers, Tim Horton's, Leslie Nielsen and of course, the Tragically Hip playing one of the teams in the Golden Broom. The best part of this movie is the sports announcer who gets increasingly drunk as the Golden Broom tournament goes on.
James Lennox: I'm a drug dealer. Neil Bucyk: I bury dead people. Eddie Strombeck: I have a single digit sperm count. Chris Cutter: And I'm a naked cheater. I say we go for it. Are you with me? Let's do it.

Gordon Cutter: Where did you graduate from? Saddam Hussein school of physiotherapy.

James Lennox: She's a rent-a-girlfriend. Chris Cutter: Good God! Listen to yourself. Are you some kind of moral dyslexic. James Lennox: I think you got that backwards, baby.

Excellent choice MissTeeks....MWB is one of my fave movies - esp cuz it's Canadian and proof that all the movies that come out of this country don't have to be documentaries or sad Atom Egoyan-esque tragedies.

Agree with the last part... and yeah, Paul Gross is kinda pretty.
One of the things I love about Bill Murray is how the characters he tends to play now are a darker, roughed up version of that same jocular character he played in his early films, Ghostbusters and such. It's entertaining now to watch those early films and see the traces of that darker character inside his lighter roles. Groundhog Day marks a real transition point between the two. Great film.
Rocky IV!
The most perfect encapsulation of the Reagan-era cold war US mentality!
America = beat up prize fighter that won't, can't quit!
USSR = sleek, sexy, svelte, scary.
Despite our economy in utter shambles, through our humble, traditional American values, we can take on and triumph over an inhuman society of communist robots! Reaganomics saves lives!!!

Although it wasn't a GREAT movie, a lot of people might not agree this one is worthy- it is one of my favorites. I love cars, and so I really enjoyed this kids movie. Isn't rated as high as some other animated movies, but is a pretty solid one IMO.
I wanted to take a different movie, but I am really hoping it'll still be around next round. No one pick it!
Sorry for the huge image, if it's too big I'll put up a different one!
hrrrm, had sent a list to girlysports so I wouldnt hold things up, but guess she hasnt checked here PMs recently...
on the plus side, I guess its a good thing I got released from hospital early, so that I can make this pick myself
with the 277(?) pick, DVD-eh? selects in the science fiction category, from James Cameron, 1989's:
The Abyss
During the height of the Cold War, a US nuclear ballistic submarine, sinks into an ocean abyss due to unknown circumstances. The US Navy scrambles to the scene to rescue survivors and recover the nuclear missles on board before nearby Russian forces do. Their best hope is a team of divers attached to a submersible drilling platform not far from the crash site. During the operation freak weather conditions damage the platform and sever its communication with the surface. As World War III looms above and tensions rise between the divers and a deployed SEAL team the rescuers discover that there is something else besides the submarine in the Abyss
