Scouts seem to think the 2026 draft will have stars available late into the first round. I would rather just give our amateur scouts more shots at it.

You’re not getting Bischel from Dallas. Unlikely they’d give Bichsel but worth trying.

If the flames could out together a package for a young center ai would be all over that.

If rasmus+ vgk 1st + mews coukd get a young center withserious top line potential,I pull that trigger.

I dont think Johnston is realistic because he's just too valuable.

But if McTavish rumours were true? Or Seattle wants to readjust and is willing to move Wright because they have a glut of young centers. Squeeze Kasper out of Detroit?

Again, I agree with diss- if we have to overpay a bit to get that C, then so be it. We have a wealth of excellent young players in the pipeline, and it wouldn't hurt to part with one or two- plus, we wouldn't have enough roster space for all of them anyway. Not all of them will even make it to the show. Wolf, Perekh, and our 2026 first should be the only untouchables IMO.

Thoughts on Rasmus + Zary for Wyatt?

I would. Not sold on Zary. The NHL skill set is there, but I feel like he could have a Mangiapane trajectory (hot start, levels out as a 3rd liner), especially with the injuries frequently sidelining him/his progress.

Not sure how it’s an injury history when he got cheap shots and a freak injury on his return.

Mangiapane could barely take 2 strides without ending up on his ass.

I like Zary a ton but a couple of boxes are ticked with Wyatt.

1. RHS
2. Natural Center

The only pause I have and it's kind of flimsy is that Johnston has been gifted some stellar line mates that helped him out of the gates. I do kind of worry about how he would fare if relied upon to drive a line.

But, if we are taking chances, I'd do it. Wyatt is the Unicorn player Conny has been hunting.

I personally don't believe it can happen though. Dallas loves the kid.

Until we see a full season from him without issues there is a question mark there. He largely missed out on a key developmental year.

Now we're a good amount of time removed from him playing like an impact-maker. Need him to hit the ground running in october to restore that probability of him panning out as a top 6 type of player.

Coronato surpassed him as an NHL this past season.

We're going to get a first and that guy Dallas just got from the pens. CP will erupt into chaos.

I'm actually a big FAN of Zary's, even moreso than I am a fan of Coronato's, but I would part with either of them to get the right C.

If the package includes a 1st and Mavrik Bourque I can't see myself being too upset.

I do think that Pospisil as an additional chip may be key to returning one of the players people here are interested in.

Two years ago is silly, but last off season was not hindsight for many fans that were pushing for giving a contender two seasons at $2.5mil (50% retained) plus those two seasons to welcome him, speak to him and hopefully sign an extension, or just use his services an amazing discount for two playoff runs.

To each their own but the Flames are going to lose a lot of fans if they don’t get some talent they can sell to fans. A new building isn’t enough.

The chances that they can make the team bad enough to get a top-3 pick, and then good enough to be competitive again when the new building opens, are pretty much zero. You're pretty much looking for a scorched-earth rebuild to be finished in under three years at that point.
