I assume the Flames were. Treliving as far as I am aware didn't talk to Muller.

1st in Goals Against per Game

3rd in Penalty Killing Percentage (only 06-07 and 07-08 were better)

The Oilers may not have lit the world on fire but since they bottomed out that was clearly their best season, if was the only season that the Oilers didn't earn a top 5 pick in that time.

Also you keep bringing up soccer, so what if he is currently in soccer? The guy played hockey, spent 20+ years coaching hockey and is still coaching Team Europe at the World Cup, obviously he loves the game.
The problem with this analysis is

- That was not a full 82 game season for the Oil to regress back to Oil ways... even this year's Oilers saw themselves in a playoff spot in December. Not only that, Hall + Hopkins + Eberle + Schultz had spent much of the season in the AHL and they were the only team that year in mid season form while other teams were using much of regular season as training camp.

- The 2012-13 Oilers were still a very poor corsi team. Their increased goal scoring correlated with their best shooting percentages. That sounds exactly like what Hartley was selling and what Treliving fired Hartley for.

- The "only" year that was better on the PP happened to be the year directly prior, suggesting Kreuger did nothing to really influence the PP positively - he just kept it from falling apart.

- Devan Dubnyk had a fantastic year. He happens to be a pretty damn good goalie. Goalies are great at influencing goals against.

- PK% was good - but is also a wildly inconsistent stat that varies from top 10 to bottom 10 for many a team from year to year. And again, back to the reduced sample size.

when you use corsi as a main point, I am not even going to weaste time reading the rest because after that i just expect something else stupid like +/- to be used

I'm not against a newish head coach like Cooper. I want them to have head coaching experience and NHL experience though. So not a guy whose never been a head coach at any level nor a guy whose never been an assistant in the NHL. I just think that (a) head coaching is way different than assisting and (b) NHL is way different than AHL or CHL.

So my ideal guy would be a someone who has had success as a head coach in the AHL and has been an assistant (preferably under a good head coach).

That wasn't his "main" point. It was one of five, all of which were relevant to the discussion.

Of course it's not particularly advanced.
It essentially equates to being out shot and therefore out played at even strength, or vice versa.
There is no magic in it. Good teams, on average, out shoot other teams, simple as that.

Going to be an exciting next 3-4 weeks for flames fans. New coach, new players, new prospects. I am really hoping the coach comes next week

Yeah I would really like to see the coaching staff in place a couple of weeks before the draft. I know Treliving is leaving no stone unturned but it's time to get this done and have the organization focus on the draft and free agency as there are big fish to fry here in the goaltending and top 6 winger department.

Todd Nelson. It's not going to happen but that's still my pick.

None of the above.

Dave Lowry is my pick.

I said weeks ago that I think Lowry is a great candidate. What he did with the Royals this season was nothing short of amazing.

Royals were expected to be cellar dwellers this season. Royals PP was pretty lethal too. A bunch of no-names and Hickets who was injured for a fair portion of the season.

Has he been interviewed? Sounds like the Flames are into the 2nd interview phase so if he hasn't been interviewed yet it's not likely going to happen.

Dineen's name was being thrown around as a possible option when the coaching search first started.

But if I'm not mistaken, we haven't heard anything at all in terms of the Flames communicating with him. It seems he probably hasn't made it this far into the coach searching "processes" that the Flames follow.
