These guys, especially the top draft picks have been living away from home with easy access to girls since they started playing junior.
Money is the only different thing in the equation.
I'd suggest that if they couldn't handle these things they wouldn't be getting picked top 5 in the first place.

In junior they are billeted with families and often have their comings and goings monitored a bit more. Although I have heard different WHL teams take different approach, some more hands on.
Once buddy makes the NHL, then they are an adult, having to make adult decisions. Many of these players have had decisions made for them their whole lives.
I agree that in small towns they are often rock stars, but once they leave junior and make the NHL, it is ramped up a tonne.

There's a big difference between being popular and living with billets and being famous and living on your own though

And I would say that's more on the team to put him in an environment to succeed. That's why Monahan lived with Hudler last year until his mom moved out to Calgary to live with him. Sure if they make the wrong decisions its a mistake they have to own up to, but the team knows what type of an environment these kids are coming into and should have things in place to help ensure they thrive in it.

I agree, and much like WHL teams, I think (but have no proof) that NHL teams don't all take the same approach.
Also Monahan was a high profile guy, I am not sure teams take that approach with their 3-4 line guys.
Some pigs are more equal than others.

I'm not concerned until it looks like we will go down the Oiler-stink garden path year after year.
Plenty of reasons to send him back to the OHL, but I don't think that should be one of them
|
I guess I may have overstated saying the main reason. Bottom line for me is Sam Bennett will be better served developing in the OHL and once is. This is still a rebuilding year so there is no need to rush him. There can be more harm to his development keeping him up then if he was sent down. At this time next year he will be just a couple months older then Monahan when he broke in as a rookie.

Maybe in good NHL organizations they tend to pay a little more attention to their young stars. Monahan lived with Hudler, he wasn't just living in an apartment downtown on his own to do what he wished. I think the same would be for Bennett if he were to stick around this season.
I believe that the Oilers setup Yak and other youngsters with the other youngsters. So instead of 1 millionaire, celebrity, they had multiple young guys together, I can't imagine that went over very well.
and I agree, money does change everything.

Sam can't go to the AHL due to age, correct?

As long as they don't put him with Glencross he'll be fine.
Don't need him to get some infection from some cougar he picks up at Ranchmans.

Someone will need to teach him to do laundry:

Pressing a button doesn't really require teaching.

Perhaps he put a red sweater in with all of his white socks.

I guess there is a reason most prospects say the biggest part of the NHL combine are the interviews. My guess is the teams drafting know the character of a player, and they also know what they will accept or not accept when they decide to draft him.
But its not like they can't get help from older players.
