From the article I posted too, having the #1 scoring defense in the league has historically been a winner in the Super Bowl by a noticeable margin.
In the end the game is played on paper but I'll take Seattles D and 8th ranked O any day of the week against a high power O with a mediocre D.

Denver's offense matches up well against Seattle's D IMO. Great offensive line, Manning will be Manning, the secondary of Seattle is very good but they'll have their hands full with D. Thomas, Decker, Welker and J. Thomas. Those receivers will all match the toughness of the secondary. D. Thomas vs. Sherman will be a fun match up
Then there's Moreno in the backfield who has been a beast this year, he's had a fire lit under his ass all year and I expect him to have a big game
Denver's D held its own against the Pats but they'll need to be at the top of their game and not let Lynch tear them apart
I'm biased but I'm liking Denver in this game

The reason elite defense normally beats elite offense is because elite defense can affect the game in a multitude of ways. It can stop the elite offense...and it score points on its own and it can set up the offense to score points. An elite offense can only score and do nothing else. Plus elite defense usually means front 4 pass rush only, a major difference maker. Seattle can absolutely terrorize Manning with just 4 guys, they're like the Giants were in their Super Bowl runs, they can just rotate 6-8 guys in there and get pressure regardless of who it is. Factor in the elite secondary and Denver's best game plan may be pounding the ball.

An elite offense can also keep the other offense off the field. Brady had so little time to play with those 7+ minute drives of Manning's.
It looks to me like a lot of low end defenses have won in the past 10 years. With the way the rules have been changing to favour the offense, the old adage of defense winning championships might not be as relevant as it used to.

Manning was sacked less than any other QB in the league this season and only the Bengals allowed less QB hits. And that's with a often injured Oline this season
Seattle will be their biggest test this year but I think Seattle's D is being way over hyped in this thread. They're obviously the best but the best passing offensive in NFL history is going to make some big plays. And if pounding is their best option, I'll be happy to see Moreno and Ball getting lots of carries
Where Seattle's going to win this game is on offense, Wilson's going to have to be much better. Having Harvin back is going to help, especially if Denver doesn't have Harris or Carter for the game

As elite and offense as the Broncos had, they only scored 24 points against a banged up Patriots defense at home. At the same time, I think the Seahawks defense is slightly over-rated.

Denver controlled the ball on extra long drives, that's just as valuable as scoring. Denver never punted against SD, and being able to keep drives going against the Pats they kept Brady off the field. Brady's just as dangerous as Manning so keeping the ball away from him proved to win the game, not a shootout like in the regular season OT loss

The Vikings set the points record in 1998, "greatest offense of all-time", no Super Bowl.
The Patriots set the points record again in 2007, "greatest offense of all-time", no Super Bowl
The Broncos set the points record again in 2013, "greatest offense of all-time"....
Apparently being the "greatest offense of all-time" is the kiss of death.

I never understood the whole "good offences keep the other offence off the field". It's a zero sum game(edit: as far as possessions goes). Denver can take all the time they want on offence, they can only score once at a max per drive.
On the flip side a great defense like Seattles can and has scored points and forced turnovers to put their offence in great field position.

My first thought is to pick Denver, but I'm not going to make a formal prediction until we get close to game day and we have a more confident idea of what the weather's going to look like. If it's going to resemble a traditional Grey Cup wintery setting, with snow/wind, I may have to go Seattle. Not because of any silly "Manning in games below X degrees = loss" rule or anything, but more of a general, "strong passing teams tend to get shut down in awful weather" type situation.
