Wow, 24 rinks, great feedback.
I've only ever been in the stadiums of Calgary and Vancouver, so my opinion is admittedly limited in regards to around the league.
Is the best rink still in St. Paul or has Pittsburgh's rink taken the crown?

I was blown away by MSG post renovation. Obviously it still has physical limitations, like narrow concourses and more time spent getting up and down, but the place is unreal.

I think sports complexes look best when they look toward the future, not the past. If you build it well enough, it won't be dated...it will be an icon.
Just look at the last generation of stadiums. Edmonton went for a classic (aka expected) look with Northlands Coliseum. Vancouver too went classic with Pacific Coliseum... and so did pretty much every other stadium in the league. The Saddledome went for something a little different. Which one is more iconic? Do you hear anyone in Edmonton wanting to keep that round circle around? I sure don't.
I'm glad Edmonton pushed the design of the stadium, and I hope it pushes Calgary to go even further. Honestly, even if they are dated, sports facilities tend to have a life of what, 30-40 years? Chances are by the time it's dated, it will be time to build a new one.

It looks like a metallic turd.
Someone was doing shots of mercury and then dropped a deuce and Edmonton made an arena out of it.

Disagree. The only time you would ever think that is looking at a rendering or flying over Edmonton. After that, its a striking piece in downtown Edmonton in an area that needs much revitalization. Street level, it's going to look amazing.
I can't wait to catch a Flames/Oilers game in that new arena. Modern, spacious, and an injection of class into downtown Greaserville.

Are they going to add one? Because having your fingers trapped while dropping metallic deuces is a sure sign that the Apocalypse is nigh.

I think Nationwide is ugly. Much prefer edmonton's rendering.
Hope we don't go all faux heritage with our new barn.

Disagree. Never been to Nationwide on the inside, the outside his ugly and dated. It's the equivalent of wood panelling in forest green minivans.

I think the arena renderings look great. I also think that with that raised pedway it kind of looks like a bedpan with a handle.

I am very jealous of Edmonton getting a new rink before us. I think that rink will be amazing. I will definitely be making a trip up there to watch a Calgary vs Edmonton game the year it opens! Looks like it is going to be state of the art.
Of course Calgary's will be bigger and better when we build.

I still want a super massive cannon on the top that fires a phonebooth size round thousands of miles.
Beat Vancouver, we hit down town Vancouver
Beat Edmonton, we hit errr downtown Edmonton
Beat Toronto we hit down town Toronto
I think fans would love to see a giant cannon fired after a win. We could even have a countdown and a random season ticket holder draw to decide who pulls the trigger.

I like it and think it takes guts to go with that design. Seems like every new venue around here is looking like this:

Which looks good but it would be nice to have something more unique and less cookie cutter.

As has been said that exterior design is safer in that it will likely age much better. I would hope the Flames next building is a little more exciting than that but not to the extend of the Oilers one that could look outdated in short time as futuresque designs don't typically age well. However it's the inside accommodations that really count so I don't care nearly as much what it looks like on the outside.
