I know I shouldn't have had any hope for anything this season, but this tam keeps tricking me into thinking they could make a run, only to come out and lose a few straight.

If only a few things had been different.....oh well, at least the rest of the season will be entertaining. Bautista may approach 60HR, Lawrie should be up soon, McGowan may finally get back to the bigs...

This division is way too hard to go on a real run for a team like the Jays.

Hypothetical... if Bautista hits 62+ homers, is he the new defacto HR King?

For a perspective on how good of a season Jose Bautista is having - if he continues the pace he is on right now, only Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Ted Williams, Roger Hornsby, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig have had better seasons than him in OPS+ (adjusted OPS) in the modern (post 1890 era).

If you're in Toronto, get out there and watch a very special player.

nice work! I had a feeling he'd be a factor when he came in as a pinch runner.

Yeah, Gozer had a point when he suggested Davis had value as an extra outfielder because of his speed. Although speed is one thing, it's another to have good baserunning instincts, and last night Davis had that going.

You'd have to think a contending team would have interest in adding a guy like that because in the post season having that guy who can go in a steal a base or two can be huge. Boston doesn't win the 2004 series if Roberts doesn't steal second so Ortiz can drive him in.

Congrats to Robbie Alomar becoming the first Jay to have his number 12 retired. Definatly my favorite player growing up. I would say he is in the top 5 as one of the most talented second baseman to play the game.

Vargas walks in a run. 2-0 Jays.

Edit: make that 4-0 on a Eric Thames 2 RBI double.

Bell is a potential free agent, but the Jays would stand a better chance of signing him if they acquired him now and began the recruiting process while he was part of their club. At worst, they could offer him arbitration and collect two high draft picks if he left as a Type A free agent, helping replace the players they lost in the trade.
I could see AA moving some parts to get Bell and then take the draft picks if they can't sign him.

I could see AA take a stab at him as well given that it's rumored the position is an off-season target for him. The only thing I have a "problem" with, is who would they give up to get him? Teams rarely trade their elite closer, and we've seen wide ranges of what they go for, but I question who the Padres would want and who the Jays could give up? My guess would be someone like Zach Stewart, but personally I wouldn't do the deal for a potential rental.

I would guess that if they trade for Heath Bell, they will have a pretty good inkling that he will sign long term with them. The Jays should not be giving up pieces for a "chance" at signing him, two draft choices be damned.

I would much rather have the prospcts that are closer to being ready than two more lottery tickets. This team is supposed to begin actually challanging for a playoff spot next year so trading for Bell and not signing him would be a step in the wrong direction, IMO. Unless somehow they are able to convince the Padres to take a collection of lesser prospects, but I do not believe Jed Hoyer is that dumb.

I see if different, if the Jays can obtain Heath Bell by moving mid tier prospect(s) that is a good move.....

Jays need to get as many picks as possible to obtain as many high end prospects as possible.

When they are ready to "challenge" they can use the prospects as assets......

I don't believe the Jays will trade any high end prospects for this type of player....
