rumors were fun and I'm glad they were posted but I don't recall any Hanifin to Vegas, Lindholm to Vancouver news breaking early

Sec is more of a divining rod, than really the 'breaking news' guy. And it was fun. He probably drew more traffic and interest in the Flames last season than the on-ice product did. If that's not an official position in the Flames office, it should be.

Its kinda funny in a hockey town like this many of us know former players or guys in the organization or actually in the know. I play with a few former players and some of the stuff they tell me that "almost" happened is crazy.

That's the thing. Just because rumors don't happen doesn't mean they weren't true. There are all sorts of trades that are discussed, proposed and negotiated of which a fraction turn into an actual transaction.
Someone should write a book (Pike?) about trades that almost happened.

I realize rumours about people’s livelihood are not great, but it’s a huge part of the business.
Engaging a group of your core fans with super cryptic (at least to me) gif, and vague statements for free is a good value prop.

It would be pretty fascinating if teams had to disclose their draft lists 20-25 years after each draft, so we could really see how they historically ranked and weighed players. Even more fascinating if they held logs of trade discussions and made those public too.
League is an entertainment business after all and one of the most entertaining things about sports is the behind the scenes stuff, which is why there are so many discussions based on little rumours we hear. It would be good for busines (like that Hey Burkie series).
Might not be that good for the egos of a few GM, scouts or owners though, so they’d never do it
