Habs easily won the Plekanec trade. Rychel, player, and a 2nd for a total non factor and a prospect? Pretty good business.

I'll cry if Brodie gets traded before seeing how he plays with a new coach.

Depends.
If Leafs turn around this series after switching to putting Plekanec against the Bergeron line then it’s a worthwhile trade.

I want Kapanen. Speed and a good shot and good hands. Think he'd be the ideal fit on the top line. Kind of guy you put on the PP with Gaudreau on the RW and Kapanen on the LW and have a one-time threat.

Grab some Kleenex.
If our ever wanted to know what a player who was playing to be traded looks like, TJ Brodie just put on a clinic. It looks like it would be best for the player and the team if he were moved.

I would strongly consider trading Brodie for domi or Gallagher. Add if you have to.

I really like his game, but more importantly I like his compete and he’s skilled and can skate. I think he could fill some needs

He said like Tuch, not necessarily that player.

I just dont think he is equally valued. Getting Domi is fine, but I think Brodie is worth more. He needs to be put back on his prefered side and put in a position to succeed before being moved at a discounted rate.

I agree with this. Domi is overrated a bit because people are surprised that he is as good as he is, and then think he's better than he is, if that makes sense. Sort of like Ferland.
ETA: side doesn't matter for Brodie IMO. He just needs to pick his game up, and I think he can.

NEVER sign a veteran UFA for big term and big money. They rarely ever work out, and usually end in disaster.
I'd be more than happy having the Flames pass on guys like Grabner and Vanek and give prospects like Mangiapane, Foo and Dube some more rope. I think all 3 of those guys, with a little patience, could solve some of the secondary scoring issues next year.
|
I don’t know if any of those guys are the answer but hopefully Flames organization realizes that overpaying for veteran UFA’s is no better answer.

I am really tired of this myth that Brodie's preferred side is RD. Except when he was used there by the Flames out of necessity because of depth issues the guy spent his whole prior career as a LD. Moving him back to RD is not suddenly going to give him a brain, you can make him look serviceable if you have Gio covering up for him.

Its really only a myth if the put him back on the Right and he continues to suck. At this point he should get 15/20 ganes there to see if it improves his game or trade value.

A disproportionate chunk of the failure of last season falls squarely on Brodie.
This is my opinion

Fair point, I read "like" as "such as". And there is a difference.
But teams don't tend to trade players like Tuch.
Teams need to target players before they break out, not afterwards.
