Next year or this year? Gio and Monahan/Valimaki are a wash this year. Jarnkrok makes $2M pro rata to the end of the year. Pro rata I’m not sure how that plays out but it ain’t much.

Cap doesn't work in that Seattle proposal anyway...Vali doesn't currently count against the cap now does he?
Gio>Monahan salary wise and Seattle can't retain to Calgary
I could be wrong...there are always ways to make things happen too

I think they were hoping for a Vegas-like run. Or the alternative is probably no captain at all in year 1 as nobody really jumps off the page for it. Maybe Oleksiak.

I would have gone with no captain like Vegas did

I would rather keep Valimaki and toss the Coyotes or Kraken a 2nd to take Mony at the draft. Hell, I would rather the Flames buy Mony out than include Vali.

At this point, if the Flames trade for a Gio or a Chiarot, IMO it will be at the expense of Kylington.

Not sure where those guys fit in the Jays lineup? 2nd base maybe?

Valimaki currently counts $425,000 against the cap even in the AHL.
Monahan and Valimaki would be $6.8 million out. Gio and Jarnkrok would be $8.75 million coming back. If Seattle retained something from Jarnkrok and the Flames moved out 2 of Ritchie, Stone, or Richardson (either to Stockton or in a trade), they could make it work.

Agreed I think it am ideal world for Darryl he would have someone like Gio or Charoit playing with Tanev as a true shutdown pair

I'm guessing the idea behind it is that one of the Flames current top 6 defensemen would be moved out and Gio would fill that vacancy for this playoff run. Something like Monahan+Lucic+Kylington for Gio+Jarnkrok+Sheahan. Then the Flames would have enough cap space in the offseason to sign Johnny, Chucky, Eatbread, Big G and Big Z to long term deals. Maybe extend Jarnkrok and/or Sheahan too if they have a good showing in the playoffs. Then presumably Mackey would pair with Tanev next season.
Worth noting that Gio+Tanev pairing worked quite well in the latter part of last season.

All the talk of chemistry and not ruining things in the room it makes a lot of sense to me for the deal I proposed between the Kraken and Flames. While some feel maybe Gio was addition by subtraction I personally don’t really agree with that. This team had 30 games with Darryl and were ready for him this year and the full training camp/buy in has lead to this team being in first place.
Bringing Gio back is as close to plug and play as possible. Familiar with most of the team and coaches. Jarnkrok would have a Toffoli like integration in my opinion. He is Lindholm’s cousin and likely friends with many of the other Swedes on the team. This makes sense to me for a team that doesn’t want to shake up the chemistry too much but improve in the 2 positions they feel they need help.

Gio would wreck the chemistry.
It used to be his room, his team. It isn't anymore. Now the old "boss" is coming back and expected to be an employee? It'd be awkward. What about the teammates he didn't get along with that are thriving now? The players that were elevated when he left? Its a bad message to send to the current leadership group as well. Its an awful idea at this point IMO.

Do you have any info to back up the claims you are making? Who didn’t he get along with? I don’t think a captain is a “boss” bad analogy. I don’t see it being awkward at all. A guy who gave his all for a team gets to come back and try and win a cup with a team that never wanted to lose him in the first place.
Again correlation does not equal causation when it comes to this team being good now that Gio left. In my opinion he doesn’t come back with the C but could take Monahan’s vacant A.
Kylington is the guy that will suffer but if all else is equal I prefer Gio to Charoit all day long.

Nope. Can't back up any claims. But conversely can you tell me he got along with everyone? Something was rotten in that room last year. Not saying it was him, but the team is better this year. Much better.
A captain is looked upon as the team leader. Sorry you didn't like boss, I shouldn't have gone with that, but it was still his team then and now it isn't. Its a bad fit now. The team has moved on. Some fans should too.

Imagine how awkward would that be if he played his 999th in Seattle, and then was traded to a random new team to play his 1000th with a grand ceremony and presentation to go with it? "Uhh, thanks for the applause, guys. Who are you again?"
