It played as a good quality TV followup to the original. It carries on the story well, but had huge leaps in story that didn't rely on any development before it. Things just sort of happened.
It could have been good if they concentrated on character, but instead they went for spectacle. It watchable, but don't expect for yourself to be moved as you were with the first one.
There are elements of the series Rome in here, if you imagine two seasons of that jammed into two hours, with huge battle scenes, you get an idea.

Nadal Fan has a bit of a point. Look at Star Wars prequel trilogy. It isn't as reviled today as it was a decade ago... Mostly because the sequel trilogy out did it and we hate on the more fresh garbage though.
I think the prequels became more appreciated before the sequels came out, but it was due more to the other Star Wars offshoots that became based off it. I don’t know what’s going to redeem the sequel movies.
I can not recommended Conclave.
It has a pretty good cast but is a pretty bad movie.
I do not understand the high ratings.
Predictable cliched stereotype plot. Flat characters.
2/5

Yes, but when people consider them among the best movies of all time is when it will be confirmed civilization has jumped the shark.
Peters Friends was a charming delight. 10 years after graduating college 6 friends reunite to ring in New Year's at Peters sprawling English estate and catch up. The cast is fantastic, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Rita Rudner (who also co-wrote it). You can probably already guess how the film goes and how it ends and it doesn't do anything drastically different than most hang out films. But I found the cast charming and genuine and I really enjoyed it, it was a cozy movie. It's also a very mature film dealing with at times heavy topics but it balances it well with humor used throughout. If you are tired of the same holiday films, and want something you probably haven't seen before give this 90s hidden gem a spin.

Watched an old classic last night - Alexander Nevsky, from 1938. It's about the Teutonic invasion of Novgorod in the 13th Century, but it's really a Soviet propaganda film prepping the masses for war with Nazi Germany. There's nothing subtle about this movie at all - the enemy is faceless and commit atrocities like throwing babies into burning pyres; the elites are enemies of the people, etc. All that being, though, it's really a beautiful movie to look at, has an epic soundtrack and has had a big influence on the world of film. Definitely worth the watch for so many reasons.

Was with a bunch of friends who had never seen Idiocracy, and it had probably been a decade for me as well.
I laugh the whole time, but feel so sad afterwards. A modern classic IMO.
I watched it again recently too. The highlight for me this time was Justin Long's performance as the bro doctor. Hearing him diagnose Luke's character was utterly absurd. As an example of one of the most intelligent people in that society, it was probably the funniest and most telling thing to me about how far people had devolved.

I can't handle even one shot of the Secretary of Education.
Watched Smile 1 and Smile 2 over the weekend. Honestly to god, some of the best horror films I've seen in a long time. Genuinely creepy and uncomfortable. Much of the films are non-stop crescendos for long periods of time. Really enjoyed them, although both endings were kind of meh. But the rest made up for it. Both actually reminded me of The Substance, that body-horror style with some really good sound quality.
Based on this post, I watched Smile and half of Smile 2 yesterday.
Holy crap, solid gold horror. Creepy and realistic gore.
Reading the trivia, the first one was made for 17 million, and was intended as direct to streaming. But the test audiences LOVED it, so they put it in theatres. Make 22 million opening weekend and 20 million the next. Was a surprise to everyone involved.
Anyway - thanks for the great recommendation Huntingwhale!

Sure, if Gunn's new DC stuff bombs even harder then batman vs. Superman might have a chance to "suck less" by comparison!
In a vacuum it's garbage.
Cringe dialogue throughout. Pretentious with forced humour that rarely lands. And they bury the hatchet because of the name Martha?
Watched The Discovery a couple weeks back. Intriguing cast and interesting subject matter. It wasn't a bomb but definitely could have been stronger. Still interesting to watch and the acting kept it enjoyable. 6/10.
Also watched The Lobster this past weekend. I enjoy most things that Collin Farrel is in, and this kept up with that. Very much a Yorgos Lanthimos film. It was odd, dark, unique, funny, and absurd. 7.0/10.
Spoiler!
I was not expecting to see John C Reilly in this movie, but he's always a treat.

"isn't as reviled" is a farcry from "all time genre best".
There are so many movies ahead of it from its own generation of superhero movies that are way better, including its predecessor Man of Steel, to ever be considered even a good one. You can say "people will like it more later", or even 'It's my favourite so FU" and that's fine. But it's just objectively not as good as at least 10-15 other films from the same time period in the same genre.
Once Upon A Time In The West is a three hour movie that takes its time, which is fine because it’s so beautifully shot and scored you relish every slow zoom or closeup. 5 Harmonicas.
