I love the final shot of Gangs of New York, seemingly centered on the Brooklyn Bridge, but more importantly the Financial District, while comparing the draft riots with 9/11, hinting at the film's true message.
Actually the whole movie is pretty based, there's even a voter fraud scene similar to what's been happening in the last few US elections, and this sniveling guy lurking behind the scebes:

I watched the Francis Ford Coppola movie One From the Heart what a delightful film. It's the type of film that's made for movie lovers, shot entirely on a soundstage they were able to recreate Las Vegas. Its part musical, part noir, part romance film it's a definite genre blender of a film. The movie isn't really big on plot but it features a couple who fight then go out on the town to find someone better. This was a huge financial disaster upon release making less than $1 million at the box office on a $25 mill budget. If you get a chance check it out, fantastic hidden gem. The film is worth seeing for the production design alone.

If we're talking about FF Coppola, I recently watched two of his films that maybe didn't get the attention they deserved:
Bram Stoker's Dracula: Got roasted because of Keanu Reaves and is pretty much the only thing that is talked about in this movie. His performance is obviously not great but looks even worse as he's up against people like Oldman, Hopkins, Elwes, etc...
Still, if you can get over his limited screen time, this is a gorgeous looking film. The usage of colour, shadows, practical effects, etc... is absolutely elite. Again, like you said, it's worth seeing for the production design alone. Terrific treatment of the source material, IMO.
The Rainmaker: This is a movie that is so relevant today about the corrupt medical insurance industry in the USA. It's a heavy story but told in a lighter way. It's an oddly optimistic film.
Absolutely loaded cast with Matt Damon, Mickey Rourke, Danny DeVito, Jon Voight, Claire Danes, Danny Glover. I believe it might have been his last mainstream release prior to Megalopolis.

Things I learned from Studio 54 when I was young.
Also, Gangs was awesome, and that's the best Diaz looked since The Mask. But agreed it went a bit sideways as it went on, and the end felt rushed and a bit of a cop out. But Day-Lewis' Bill the Butcher is legendary.

This is pretty much my take on it too. Its a Beautifully shot film, Day-Lewis stole the show by a long ways, but yeah, it meandered a lot, but the cinematography and Day-Lewis are worth the price of admission on their own.

Holy crap. That was one of the most disappointing movies ever. They don't call him Shia Franchise Killer for nothing. I haven't watched another Transformer after that.
How bad was it? Even Megan Fox in tight jean shorts couldn't save it.

DDL sure acted a lot in that film, but IMO not in a good way. He felt like a character from a very different film than everyone else. Entertaining, attention grabbing, steals every scene, but takes me out of the film every time he's on screen.

See here...the thing about it for me was this.
I was STOKED. I mean, I dont get super excited for movies all that often and a large part of that is because I'm a Star Wars fan. I am also a Star Trek fan, which means I've learned to coat my heart in lead and go into most things very, very cautiously.
Over the years I've learned to expect little from either property so as not to get my hopes up and my dreams destroyed.
But Transformers? I went into that and you didnt have to do much. I was there, cash in hand, prepared to be sold on this wonderful franchise, I was there for it.
And what did I get in return?
This gif. On repeat. In slow motion. The cigarette slowly falling and falling and falling....
I hadn't been that let down since The Phantom Menace.

To put it into some sort of context...I at least finished the Star Wars sagas, both prequels and sequels.
I think I've seen 2 Transformer movies. The first one and that one with the Camaro?
Oh I watched one with an old Transformer on dumbass crutches or something stupid like that and turned that off as soon as ol' crutchy showed up because that was arguably the dumbest cinematic choice anyone would make.

Batman vs Superman. Terrible. I watched it a couple years ago... Well, actually I had an hour nap while it played on my TV.
My daughter shares my love of Batman and now that she's older we're watching all things Batman. She chose Batman vs Superman for this weekend's viewing. I had a much shorter nap this time and I'm angry that I didn't sleep longer. My son hadn't seen this so he decided to watch with us too and halfway through he decided to go do homework instead.... on a Saturday night.
If you live under a rock and were contemplating watching Batman vs Superman, dont. Just dont. This movie is decidedly terrible. How did this get made? How did they try to make more movies in this timeline? I think this is the worst movie I've ever watched.

Under the silver lake. What a fever dream of a movie. Entertaining enough but weird as hell.

Barbie is unwatchable garbage.
My wife wanted to throw it on a few days back and we both hated it. Couldn't even stay engaged at all.
I can't believe there were people who thought it was ok or even good. I will never get those hours back.

You both need visual and mental enemas.
I prescribe a minimum dose of a single viewing of Galaxy Quest. Repeat if necessary.
Break out Star Trek: First Contact if necessary.

Gladiator was reasonably entertaining but generally pretty terrible. The story is derivative, the characters are all flat, underdeveloped and boring, the casting is meh, the ending was ridiculous.
I have very little positive to say. I wanted to like it. Love me some sword and sandal. It just had nothing.
My biggest surprise is Denzel wasn’t the worst performance. Based on the trailer I thought he’d stick out with a sore thumb doing a verbose character with a Brooklyn accent in Ancient Rome but it didn’t actually bother me much. All the rest of the casting falling flat was much more noticeable.
Paul Mescal was boring, Pedro Pascal was boring, Connie Nielsen was boring, the two emperor twins were comical. And none of them were developed as characters at all. I didn’t like Lucius the way I cheered for Maximus and I thought the emperors were lame instead of unhinged and so easily dislikable from Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus.
I like Pedro Pascal and he’s shown he’s got some range with roles in GOT and TLOU but he was so boring in this movie. He had nothing to work with.
And despite all this I might have given the movie a mildly positive review if they’d have stuck the landing but th least 35 mins was all downhill and easily the worst part of the movie.
To be clear I didn’t hate it. It’s too boring to hate. It was just so very meh.

Streamed Longlegs last week. Creepy as hell and some of the hidden images freaked me out pretty good. Usually I don’t notice that kind of stuff. Nic Cage though was frankly distracting and while his appearance was shocking, some of his mannerisms seemed like typical Nic Cage stuff and kind of took me out of the movie. Still an unsettling movie.
Thought we would put on an offbeat Christmas movie last night so tried a Bad Moms Christmas. That was awful, only made it halfway through.

Movies that take big swings are always remembered and become classics in 40 years. So many films that were hates upon release are seen as classics now. The Shining was nominated for Razzie awards for example. In 40 years audiences will watch Batman V Superman and say wow was this film ahead of its time and it will be remembered as one of the best superhero movies of all time.

I disagree. That film was borderline unwatchable.

Nadal Fan has a bit of a point. Look at Star Wars prequel trilogy. It isn't as reviled today as it was a decade ago... Mostly because the sequel trilogy out did it and we hate on the more fresh garbage though.
