I’m changing my answer to Peterson. Vancouver might have made a mistake trading Miller and not Peterson. For flames players with clauses in their contract they might have not had Vancouver on it because before season started they were probably looked at as a playoff team.

If we were to acquire a player like Rantanen or Cozens you'd have to think a guy like Zary or Ras would be going the other way.

I love Ras but am constantly torn between resigning him and trading him now or in the offseason. We just have so much RHD depth for years to come. It's probably our biggest position of strength. If you can get the value for him now and add an asset of high calibre that fits the long term vision you'd have to think Conroy would pull the trigger.

Pettersson would be such a massive risk especially with Huberdeau on the books for 6 more years at a huge number. Maybe together they could flourish but if not that could ruin this franchise for the next half decade +

There's tons of risk with Pettersson, but it's the closest thing to an Eichel 2.0 you can get.

It's worked out wonderfully for Vegas in hindsight, but there was a ton of risk there and it could of easily blown up.

If we want to trade for a young PPG+ #1 center, we're going to need to eat ALOT of risk. Teams don't give these players up unless there's an issue.

I don't know if the flames should do it. I guess like everything else it comes down to price.

If you could realistically get him fairly cheap, I think you take the risk.

Eichel was injured, and his play didn't fall off a cliff. If the disc came out they would probably just fuse him.

Pettersson is a headcase not an injury issue. I want zero parts of a player who takes zero accountability for his crappy play, and I think Conroy probably feels the same way. When you look at Kadris comment about not wanting losers, well getting Pettersson would be doing just that.

Flames have had issues and are concerned over a reputation of not being able to keep young American talent, they have one who is willing to and wants to stay and they can extend this summer but no they're going to trade him?

Listening to a podcast earlier this week, there is some suspicion that Pettersen is dealing with a wrist and/or knee issue. Also worth noting that the Canucks training staff has come under scrutiny recently on how they deal with injuries.

Still seems to me that Pettersen’s commitment to getting stronger/training was a significant contributor in the rift with Miller. If that’s the case, it might not matter much which team he’s playing for.

Huge risk. Then again, it seems like this is the type of risk the Flames may need to take to get their hands on a 1C potential player. If this season is any indication, a top 5 pick seems unlikely especially with Wolf’s emergence.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call him awful but I agree that Eichel comparisons aren’t really accurate.

The talent is there with Pettersen. Whether it is mental or physical, if he can ‘get right’ whom ever he’s playing for could have an elite C on their hands.
