Well the warm air isn't making him any smarter. "Canada has 7% GST!" "What Canadians don't understand is they don't have to pay income taxes, I haven't for 23 years!". Also calling BS on him looking at houses in Calgary and the property taxes are 7 grand. Sure bud, like a bank would approve you for a million dollar mortgage, what with your not paying taxes at all. Too bad, he could have been Mayor!
Aren’t both a case of cherrypicking a handful of comments in order to paint your political enemies as nuts?
Again, we’re seeing widespread compliance with water restrictions. This isn’t an example of a community full of ignorant and selfish people - it’s the opposite. You can find the dumb if you go looking for it. But why go looking for it?
There isn't even any indication that Stampede-haters are leftist (though they probably are). Those posts just didn't fully consider all of the nuance involved in an issue...like nearly every post in the history of social media.

Hell, there’s no indication those people even hate the Stampede.

It isn’t ignoring nuance. It’s ignoring the process that was gone through to evaluate that stampede was okay. It’s the same lack of trust of expertise that permeates these discussions. It’s conspiratorial thinking that the CEMA, the city and the stampede are going to put the whole city at risk to have a party and not tell us about it. It can’t just be they reviewed the data, come up with mitigations, and found a way to safely execute so canceling at this time isn’t warrented.
It doesn’t seem unreasonable that 10% of calgarians are on vacation for those 10 days of summer to balance it out. You also have to consider that Hotel capacity is fixed and that those 138k might average 3-5 days each so the real impact is half that number
According to this in June Calgary runs about 75% of hotel capacity
The city should have data on how much water gets used extra for stampede....if the data says it's good to go then it should be good to go.
If the data says the city can't handle the extra usage then it should be cancelled.
Um. Am I missing something?
Because. They do. They have. They've said it can. This has already been done.
I dont like the Stampede, but I understand and respect it's importance to this City in many ways. If other people like it then they can fill their boots thats great.

As long as it's rain water.
