Exactly.

ALL options would have been discussed by the entire organization.

Sports franchise malpractice.

We truly are doomed as long as Edwards owns this team. Holy Christ.

What a poor run organization when a guy like him is answering the questions without a shred of humility.
There's no value in running down your own players. If you're trying to trade them, you're just decreasing their value by making it clear you want to get rid of them, and if they're going to be back on the team next season, you don't want to create any bad blood and have a tuned-out player showing up to camp.

I think Bean's combinative approach from the start was likely a tactic to control the presser and prevent anyone from trying to ask hard questions. Sutter does the same thing.

Calgary has great people in the media, but they are often too docile.

When John Bean talks about hockey he reminds me of the guy on Silicon Valley who wanted Richard Hendrix to keep building the box and it scares the crap out of me.

While I agree, why credit a player as Vezina when he was probably the worst on the team? Just answer everyone is under evaluation, or leave the convo to the interim GM. It reeks of influence.

I think Francis and Valji did a good job of pressing forward despite the not so subtle aim to bs by Bean. Glad they didn't kiss his butt.

Yeah that's kind of true. Loubardias is a great person but his question about "was that one of the hardest things you've experienced" or something like that was just useless really. Didn't learn anything.

The worst part was when he pointed to Maloney and said this guys needs to do a better job and make sure we aren't 4 point out with 3 game left. Maloney face just changed I would have slapped Bean. How about you and the ownership don't go above the GMS head and chase him out of town idiot.

Last thought for the day: if any of this has to do with Treliving feeling burned out or whatever, I hope he gets to rest and get his mojo back because he’s earned it. His last piece of business for the Calgary Flames was signing Matt Coronato — hope he ends up being a good one.

Treliving steered the Flames through some tumultuous waters during his tenure. Probably did more in his 9 years than others in a career. And did it with class. It's a sad ending of an Era.

Even if you wanted to rebuild I bet taking the FL offer would have been the right choice, then flip the players. Huby on a 1 year bargain contract would have been worth a lot of futures on his own last summer, and the Flames could have retained which would have opened up tons of potential trade partners. Then flip Weegar as well and you're looking at multiple firsts in the each of the next few drafts.

It has been a rough year with losing to our rivals, to losing our franchise players, signing new high end players who failed to take the team to the playoffs, to have our GM decide he didn’t want to work here anymore. Still the worst building in the league and the fanbase is not feeling good about the team.

On one side I am pissed in general about this situation. A GM has a vision to build around the 2 best players and they choose not to stay. It was an impressive pivot last summer getting Huberdeau and Weegar ++ for Chucky and then signing Kadri seemed to set the team up to be better but an 18pt drop in the standings resulted in the dreaded spot of being the team outside the playoffs with the best record. He made a pivot and that move resulted in 3 long term contracts and 2 already look borderline terrible.

The Sutter era in early 2000’s helped restore the team but when it ended the team was a laughing stock especially when Jay Feaster tried to keep pushing forward with the same group. I think the Burke and Treliving era brought that respect back to the franchise.

I always thought Treliving and Maloney were a package deal but I was clearly wrong. While I expect Sutter to be back it will be interesting to see what other changes are made.

The 2022 Flames off season was a mess. 2023 off season: hold my beer.

Can’t help but thinking this is losing Al Coates 2.0. Tre made some questionable decisions and not a lot of success in his tenure but was very professional and built a solid team foundation that I fear the next guy will mess up.
