That will be about what it takes to sign Yamamoto and PullanRV (unless they just walk from him)

If he goes to arbitration he is getting a one year deal and then can sign a 8 year deal with whatever team he lands on after Jan 1st but before the trade deadline.

The Flames probably are targeting him as a now piece (bonus that he's swedish) to stop the bleeding. If we get Bratt I can't see high end futures being part of the package too.

if its Bratt the minimum add is Holtz and a pick....... before this past season his career high in pts was 35. Don't get me wrong, Bratt is a nice piece but there has to be a significant add to make a deal work.

Ya, Bratt + Holtz + either Mercer or 2023 1st would be fine by me.

I wonder what the flames strategy could be here? Have conversations with interested teams and if they reach a certain threshold do the flames give other teams the chance to talk contract or do they just deal him as is? I’d think they could maximize the return if they allow teams to negotiate and potentially sign for a long term deal. Though if some teams don’t like the asking terms they’d likely back out. I dunno. They just have to hit a home run from this as it sets up their future for the next five years or so, I think.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't be upset with Bratt + Holtz + 2023 1st. I think that would be a good return.
Another player on NJD that I'd look at is Shakir Mukhamadullin. He's an interesting defensive prospect with what looks like a pretty high ceiling, but my biggest target would be Alexander Holtz.

It'll be fun watching whatever fanbase start to talk about awesome he is after literally every fan outside of Calgary hating his guts

I know, Bratt would not be the piece that I want but I can see the Flames brass fixating on him for short term damage control and medium term upside. If they like him enough who knows what else they'll ask for

Oh he is my favorite Flames player but he is definitely a player you only like when he is on your team. I am sure he'll take a run at someone on the Flames first chance he gets lol

I would try to pry Mercer out instead of the 2023 1st Round pick. One would be estatic if you could draft a player from 2023 1st round that ends up like Dawson Mercer.
Bratt + Holtz + Mercer would be an absolute haul. Would even be ok if the Flames added a pick to make that happen.

Bratt wouldn’t be able to do much on this team. He would be just another piece with value that they can trade later

Best value is Tkachuk agreeing to a long term deal with a team for sure. If he takes a one year deal then the Flames may as well hold on till the deadline IMO.

Unless you mean have him sit with a contract and healthy, but not sure how that results in a potential lost of earnings and seems like the worst case unless you're really afraid of seeing Tkachuk play without Gaudreau.
|
The Flames can definitely accept the arbitration and sign him, or whoever holds his rights, to an 8 year deal after Jan 1.
In season, I sit Tkachuk until a trade. His value is at it's highest, so he doesn't get inured, the potential loss of a linemate could lower his stats/value. But I would like to put the pressure on Matthew, sitting on his parents couch in St. Louis, thinking that as the season slips away, his value on the 8 year contract may go down. He may expand his list to some new teams to make a trade happen - maybe, maybe not.

If the 2023 1st is not left unprotected, then you look at already drafted prospects IMO. Holtz and Mercer are the starting point for a deal. They aren't on the table, I'd be inclinded to look elsewhere as those are the level players you need to make a deal for Tkachuk worthwhile.
Bratt, Holtz, and Mercer is a good basis for a deal, but Jersey still needs to include another player for salary purposes. The aforementioned Tatar would make the salaries work and Calgary could turn him into a decent pick at the deadline, whch Calgary could include a 2024 mid rounder to make up for. Win-win all around.
