It’s so great to have the EPL back from the international break. This one was more enjoyable, with Canada being so good, but there’s nothing quite like the Premier League.

I like to believe that they had their reasons for passing on Conte. I mean, I still don't get it, but maybe they are set on somebody that won't be available until the summer (ten Hag, Pochettino) and just hoped they could somehow survive the season with Ole. That ship has obviously sailed, but if they'd still prefer to wait for one of those, then an interim manager for the rest of the season would be fine with me. I have no idea if somebody like Ralf Rangnick would be interested, but I'd be fine with that. Laurent Blanc would be another shout. But really, no idea what the club is thinking.
With Zidane, I always thought he wasn't keen on going to the PL and he'd rather just wait for that French NT job. Not sure how I'd feel about it.

Money talks, and with Newcastle coming on the scene in a big way I think the only reasonable appointment is Zidane. They'll have to pay him tens of millions of pounds just to take the job and guarantee major funds be made available to bring in new players. I think there's a seriously strong chance that both Mbappe and Pogba sign for Newcastle, Mbappe as soon as six weeks from now.

sorry man, but you honestly have no idea what you're talking about. They'll sign the likes of James Tarkowski and Jesse Lingard this January, that's it.

I for one would enjoy watching Zidane screaming at the United players in French as his confused players stare at him quizzically.

some of them could probably use one of Zidane's old-fashioned headbutts instead.

Well obviously neither of those players will play for Newcastle in January, but I can see Mbappe signing a pre-contract agreement with them and Pogba running down his contract and signing on July 1. They have unlimited funds and can safely spend about 200m pounds each season for the next three seasons without running afoul of the financial fair play rules.

Line them up in training and watch Zidane just go down the line headbutting each of them.
I'd buy tickets to that.

I think 'Zero Chance' is actually rather optimistic. I'd put the odds far, far lower than that.

I don't see why not? Manchester City were a mid-table to lower half of the table club when their current ownership group took them over, and they went out and brought in a whole host of new players that were top quality right out of the gate. They signed Robinho for 32.5m pounds at the end of the summer transfer window in 2008. Is that much different than Newcastle potentially signing Mbappe or Pogba on a free?

Particularly if they end up relegated. Unlimited money, or not, players still want to play with a chance at winning the big prizes. They’re not looking for a Championship match against Preston North End.

Did Neymar not leave Barcelona to play in a vastly inferior French league for the money?
